Aw, this is brilliant - beautifully written and moving and truthful and SO much the kind of thing I needed to read since we heard about Wildstorm's demise. Closure and affirmation, and (I'm sure) a profoundly more satisfying coda than there'll be room for them to have in the actual comic before it ends. I really love that rueful note of "we're getting old, aren't we" - I've always liked the fact that these two aren't starry-eyed kids or idealistic young men but rather battered warhorses, acting like an old married couple rather than new lovers right from their first appearance in Stormwatch (and I adored the way Simon Coleby drew them both kind of wolfish and raggedy). Thanks so much for posting this.

Oh! I just realised it was you who wrote that wonderful long piece set just before DnA's issue #1. I absolutely loved that story, I meant to comment on it at the time; I thought it fitted so perfectly with the continuity and texture of Abnett and Lanning's writing that it felt like canon. There seems to be very little World's End fic out there, which is strange considering its immense story potential. I think I'll go re-read that story now :)
