arts! arts!

I have been bitten by the art bug! For the first time in... two years. Three? Damn. Something like that.

It's reading all these comics. I always get intimidated about drawing art for fandoms with real people because I feel pressured to be photo-realistic somehow... considering I don't really have my own consistent style through which I could reinterpret an actor's face. I could probably be as proficient at art as I am at writing, but only with LOTS of practice.

So our next response paper assignment for graphic novel class has several options, three of which are creative. They all involve writing either a prequel or a sequel to one of the books we've read so far, and we can either summarize what we think would happen (which, TBH, I don't think should even be a grade-worthy option), write the story out in prose format, or go ahead and do the obvious: script it and draw the comic of it.

My easy way out would be to write a short story. I could do that in the time it's taking me to type this entry. But I've been staring at all this damn gorgeous art for three months now and I want to take a stab at it myself. So I figure, if I'm going to be daring anyway, why not get in WAY over my head and try to write and illustrate a prologue to Sin City: The Hard Goodbye in Frank Miller's style? Because that's totally what people who haven't drawn anything significant in three years should do for a grade! \o/

Anyway, I doodled just so I could practice my inking. I love inking to bits, which is why I want to play with Miller's hard-light black and white style.

Oh, Tony. We know you're hot.
