OMG NEW TORCHWOOOOOD
I didn't realize how freakishly excited I was until I had actually downloaded the first ep and started watching it. And I have to say... RTD hasn't won me back completely and he's still in the red as far as Doctor Who goes, but he won LOADS of points for the first ep of Children of Earth, Day One. Of course the "I just thought it would be so cool if ALL THE CHILDREN IN THE WORLD did X crazy alien thing" smacks of his inability to edit himself, but the episode itself was actually amazingly well written. I find myself in disbelief that this is the same RTD of such DW catastrophes as Journey's End. But Day One is proof that if he stops abusing overscaled action plots and sticks to close-up interpersonal drama, he really is a good writer.
The entire episode was worth it just for the parallel scenes of Jack visiting his daughter and Ianto visiting his sister. Fan-bloody-tastic. "Have you gone bender?" "AYE AYE GAY BOY!" "I found a gray hair..." And Gwen on the phone with Rhys, "Oh God, I'm entering England." "Have you got currency?" "Yeah, and I've had my shots." PFFFT. (I'm kind of in love with Gwen now. Only in the radio plays and this series, because she's finally backed off and started respecting Rhys as her husband and Jack & Ianto as a couple. And she's so much funnier and more legitimately badass than she used to pretend to be.)
AH, TURCHWAD, HOW I'VE MISSED YOU!
And apparently Jack goes full frontal in tonight's ep? I think it's while he's all post-explode-y, though, so probably ew.
LOL, unexpected exploding Jack,
