I went to Boise the week of August 17th for work. The work part was pretty straightforward and boring, but Boise is a fun city that I'd definitely visit again.
When I fly out of Cleveland, I like to stop and make a visit in the Chapel if I have time. I had plenty of time Sunday, and it was on my way to my gate, so I thought it was perfect. Except, I couldn't find the Chapel. I knew there had been rumors of the chapel closing, and I wasn't happy. It turns out they moved it to a
breakroom. WHAT?!!!!! I'll have to look for it the next time I'm there.
I took two flights on the way out and back. Cleveland to O'Hare; O'Hare to Boise. On the way out, I sat by a young woman who was writing in a journal. She greeted me as I sat down, but we didn't make any sort of small talk. The pilot came on the speakers to announce our descent into O'Hare, and I finally asked her what she was writing. (Journal, work, author, etc.) It turns out she's a writer, and she was in the middle of writing a screen play. She's Catholic, and we ended up talking about God's providence in our lives. It was a refreshing conversation. She gave me a card and wrote me a brief note. I'm glad I asked her why she was writing.
The flight from O'Hare to Boise was long. I was in the last row of the plane by the window, and the seat had been assigned to someone else as well. They ended up moving him, and I moved into my spot. I spent a good portion of the flight reading and then listened to music while I slept. I spent the last hour or so crying. Ah...life is funny. Sometimes your emotions catch up with you at odd times. I got to thinking about SteelersBoy and my mom, and that was enough to send me into quiet tears. I'm grateful for anonymity on planes.
Boise is beautiful, and they seem to go through various weather changes like Ohio. Monday started off warm and climbed to 100. Tuesday started out cooler and climbed to 80. Wednesday started out even cooler and climbed to the high-70s. Tuesday and Wednesday were perfect. I went walking Tuesday along a path that goes through the whole city and took pictures. I love going to new places and discovering new things. It really made me wish I had a better camera. Maybe I'll get it for Christmas. We ate outside a couple nights, which was really nice. We got to experience the city while enjoying the beautiful weather.
The flights home were a bit more exciting. When I checked in from my hotel room, I didn't have a seat on the flight from O'Hare to Cleveland. Thankfully that changed by the time I got to the Boise airport. I had a 3-hour layover in Chicago, so once I got to the right terminal, I walked towards my gate hoping there was a bar close by. Sure enough, I found one and it served food! I sat at a table with a few other people, and we made small-talk. The excitement of the evening was a woman who looked to be around 25 who had a baby, no older than 2, in a stroller next to her. The woman was clearly drunk, and this sparked conversation amongst my fellow travelers, who were sure that the child was going to be scarred for life, have a horrible existence, etc. She also kept lighting up and was told several times by the bartender to cut it out. Finally, the bartender had enough and cut her off. This didn't go over too well, and the woman ran after the bartender and pulled her hair. She quickly turned around, grabbed her baby, and left the bar. I was just glad that she wasn't on my flight.
