Everywhere I Go Damn There I Am

I've been obsessing about my Mini Cooper the way adolescent boys obsess about the hottest girl on the cheer leading squad. Yeah, I've got it bad. Maybe that'll be my next big present to myself? It seems a tad extreme and a very stupid move to make. Because if you're buying a house the number one thing you should do is go buy a sports car you don't know how to drive and probably can't afford. Well, I can afford it, but it'd be a financially stupid decision. And, I can drive it if I get automatic, but I associate sports cars with stick, and I have no idea how to drive stick. Regardless, I'm still obsessing about it. Sigh. I really want it.

Mary's birthday weekend was a success. Saturday began with a trip to the gym. Because if you're going out to celebrate in style, you definitely want your muscles to be sore, right? Right. We then ran to the mall to get "something to wear" since we're girls and clearly can't wear any of the dressy attire in our closet. Well, I did want to wear a shirt in the closet, but I wanted a cute skirt to match it. Off to the mall we went. Mary found a beautiful white dress with pink lining. Malia found a cute white dress that had brown and pink floral designs on it. I found a gorgeous blue dress that hugged me in all the right places.

We then needed shoes. Again, we're girls and can't possibly wear the perfectly good shoes we already have in our closet. Mary found a nice pair of strappy pink sandals. I found a cute pair of gold shoes, which I'm not crazy about, but they get the job done. The sales clerk took me "in the back" so I could look at all the options at once. Honestly, it's the best way to shop for shoes if you know what color you want. The boxes are shelved in color order, and I was able to peruse the selection quickly. Yes, he did try to pick me up, and no, I did not give him my number. He did give me his number, though. He's 40, and I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that a guy that's clearly out of my age range tried to pick me up since I've been getting hit on since I was about 13, but it never fails to amuse me. After buying our goodies, we raced home, got dressed in record time, and headed out the door to Bricco.

I know I've blogged about Bricco before, but I cannot get enough of that place. I love their food. Immensely. We began the meal with various appetizers, but my favorite was the Grilled Portabello with Chicken. The sauces totally make the experience. For dinner, I had the duck, which was paired with mashed potatoes and green beans. I'm not sure where they find their green beans, but they taste fresh, and I know it's not green bean season. (Yes, my family grew green beans. Not tons...just enough for us to eat.) The mashed potatoes were divine, and the duck was cooked to perfection. Mmmm...my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We topped off the dinner with a Raspberry Cheesecake which was expertly done. All in all a great dinner.

Since we were all dressed up, we decided to head over to Fuel to enjoy the only Martini bar in town. The drinks were fantabulous. I don't drink vodka too often, but when I do I feel fantastic. :-) The music selection was pretty good; they even threw in some techno. I got to people-watch, and enjoyed eye candy. Oh, and hanging out with my friends was a good time too. Haha. Eventually we headed over to Barley House, because that's just where you go if you're downtown and want to go out for the night. Even when you swear you're not going there cause you go there every weekend, you still end up back there. I ran into a guy I knew from grade school, and Mary's brother made an appearance. It was a fun evening.

Sunday began with a trip to church where we ran into Mary's fam. We came back and crashed. I eventually went to the store to buy a birthday present for my bro, ran to my parents house to drop it off and pick up mail, and headed back to the apartment to get ready for the Ben Folds/John Mayer concert. Let me be clear. I love Ben Folds. I like John Mayer. He's a great musician, and I love his "non-pop" stuff, but Ben Folds holds a special place in my heart. The concert was phenomenal. Ben played a wide variety of music...old and new...and transitioned from song to song with ease. He did play Such Great Heights by the Postal Service, and the audience loved it. Of course he played Army but didn't stop to "direct" the audience. Anyone who knew what was up joined the various parts of the chorus anyway. He closed with Not the Same and jumped on top of the piano directing the audience. Fabulous. I was looking forward to John Mayer, however, and he exceeded my expectations. He made great use of lights and TV screens. There is a lot to be said about the use of lights and TV screens to create art while listening to music. I appreciated him so much more because of it. The saxophonist had a long solo part, which made my evening. He didn't play my fav song (Come Back to Bed), but he closed the main event and the encore with great pieces I'd never heard before (I just started listening to the new CD) that it didn't matter. He did play Cigarette by Ben Folds which confused me at first...I couldn't figure out why I knew the song, but I knew it wasn't his. :-) All in all, it was a fabulous show and I highly recommend going to see both of them if they drop by your town. Mega-thanks to ebizaleth for hooking me up.

I started my Intro to Photography class Monday. I'm excited and nervous about it. I took a few pics yesterday and had them developed. They didn't come out quite the way I wanted, but I hopefully I improve by the end of class. Using someone else's camera scares me a bit...just cause I know it's expensive and I'd prefer to not replace it. I'm so grateful that she loaned it to me, though. I doubt I would've bought it just for the class. My professor is pretty cool. He was actually at the Ben Folds/John Mayer concert and is quite jealous of the fact that I saw Ben Folds at Severance Hall. Yeah, I know you're jealous too! He just wants us to take pictures, so he got rid of all the papers we need to do, cut down on the amount of presentations on artists that are supposed to be given, and goes over the quizzes with us. He does expect us to read the book, though, and asks questions throughout class to test us. I'm very excited...I hope I do well. I might post a few pics I've taken if I'm satisfied with them.
