I met a man today as I rode the bus home. I was exhausted, the sort of exhausted where it seems like I focus better. He was on his way to the Catholic School his five year old went to. You could immediately see the love he had for this girl. Their chemistry was very strong, and it reminded me of mom and I. She was at that chatty age where she's learning everything about the world, and wants to share what she's learned. I spoke to him briefly. He was once wealthy--until she came along. Never married, the woman left him, and he was left raising her on his own. He gave up everything to put her into a good school. She is his world, and he decided it was well worth a humble middle class life. He struggles, he said life was never easy. But the rewards are great.
