I went on an amazing nature hike yesterday, and I suddenly realized how beautiful trees are. Stupid, I know. But it's true. They're enormous plants that make a sheltered habitat for us, and they grow for hundreds of years. Seeing as I was raised in a town called Woodland Park, they've been an important part of my life. Especially ponderosa trees, which have thick bark so that they can survive forest fires. When they're wet, they sometimes smell like butterscotch or vanilla. There are a lot of aspen trees here, too. On my hike I took pictures of nothing but trees and blue sky. Some people might find my pictures boring, but if they do, they can just look at something else. I love trees! I think we should notice and appreciate them more often.
EDITED TO ADD: Wow, I just realized that my journal is in fact called "Speculations of a Treehugger." As if it should come as any big surprise that I'm fond of trees. Sigh...
