'Melissa' sparkling mead, from
Honey Gardens Apiaries, first mentioned
here a couple weeks ago. We were able to procure two bottles last weekend at the co-op.
In my opinion, mead should taste at least somewhat like the honey used to make it. This is a light, dry, bubbly drink--more like an ale really than a 'mead', which I would expect to be more akin to a semi-sweet to sweet non-bubbly dessert wine. Yes, I had preconceived notions...shock. However, I've had Honey Gardens' actual honey. Recently, even. This beverage was not bad--but it did not taste like the honey from which it came, and that was disappointing.
If they would've called it 'honey ale' I'd have been favorably impressed. As it is, trying it was enough to get me to start fermenting my own batch of mead with honey from former co-worker Patrick.
