Untitled
The sword went right through Tamsin, slicing through skin and tissue as if they were nothing. It wasn’t the first time, and she had long since figured out that the pain was blindingly hot, unlike the cold steel that cut into her insides.
She heard Bo yelling somewhere in the distance, but she didn’t have the strength to turn around and see for herself.
Cursing under her breath, Tamsin sank to her knees, looking up at the man who had managed to get past her defenses.
Hadn’t she been at the end of her life cycle she he’d have never managed to impale her like she was some sort of skewer.
The man’s eyes rolled back into his head as the sword was drawn out of her guts and he collapsed.
Cara raised her eyebrows and cocked her head to the side, waiting for something.
“Alright,” Tamsin rasped, coughing up some blood, “you win.”
The Mord’Sith smirked and had to spin around when yet another guard attacked her from behind.
Tamsin slowly lowered herself to the ground and rested her cheek on the cold stone floor, the blood warm on her stomach.
“Fuck, not how I imagined I’d die…”
…
A couple of days earlier
„So why can’t we just go look for the bling-bling ourselves?” Kenzi asked as she settled on a bar stool next to Bo.
Trick raised his eyebrows and sighed.
“Because only a Seeker can find the Sacred Stone. Even if we searched for centuries we would not find it. It is not within our abilities to locate it, and neither of us would be successful however determined we might be.”
Kenzi rolled her eyes and swiveled around to Bo.
“Alrighty then, let’s find us a Seeker.”
“If it were that easy, we’d have only half as much problems,” Trick said and put three glasses on the counter.
He filled them with amber-colored liquid and pushed two glasses over to Bo and Kenzi.
“And who can help me find one?” Bo asked.
She clinked glasses with Kenzi and they both drank. Bo made a face as the liquid ran down her throat.
Trick shrugged after he had emptied his glass.
“I’ll ask around and see what I can find out.”
…
“And why would I want to help you?”
Tamsin leaned back against her car and crossed her arms in front of her chest. She looked Bo up and down as if she couldn’t quite decide whether she liked what she saw or if she was just annoyed beyond reason.
“I owe you one. And by the way, you want that stone as much as I do because without it we wouldn’t stand a chance against him.”
Tamsin’s entire face darkened as Bo reminded her yet again of the enemy they now had to face.
Bo waited patiently for an answer, knowing that pushing the valkyrie was not a good idea.
“Alright fine. I don’t know where to find a Seeker, in fact I have never met one personally, and the truth is that a new Seeker has not been named for several generations. There are no wizards around anymore who would be powerful enough to name one anyway.”
Bo faltered and stepped away from Tamsin.
“Okay so then how can we…”
“Would you please let me finish succubus?”
Bo turned to Tamsin and raised her hands.
“Sorry, go on then.”
“Like I said, I can’t say if there is a Seeker around, or a wizard, but I might know a spell that gives you whatever you need most. It’s powerful and can backfire on you just as easily, but if finding a Seeker is what you want most, then that is what will happen.”
Bo’s entire face immediately brightened.
“Tamsin, that is awesome.”
“Well don’t get your panties in a twist just yet succubo, I can’t promise that it will work.”
“Well it’s better than anything I’ve had so far. When can we do it?”
Tamsin turned around to gaze at the clock in the dashboard of her car.
“I will need a couple of hours. Just wait for me at the Dal, won’t hurt to bring your granddaddy as well if shit hits the fan.”
And with that Tamsin got into her car and waved at Bo before driving off.
Bo smiled and walked back to her own car. Despite Tamsin’s gruff attitude she’d known that the blonde would help them, not just because she needed the Sacred Stone, but also because she was part of their little world-saving group. Whether she wanted it or not.
True to her word, Tamsin showed up at the emtpy Dal a couple of hours after she’d talked to Bo. She looked a little worse for the wear as she marched through the door and slammed an old piece of parchment down on a nearby table.
“Are you okay?” Bo asked.
“Fine, just had a little quarrel with an uncooperative Fae, but that little bastard found out what it means to mess with a Valkyrie.”
Tamsin scowled at a non-existent enemy for a moment before she turned to Bo and Trick. He examined the parchment and nodded to himself.
“I had no idea such a spell still existed,” he murmured.
“Yeah well, it is one of the last of its kind, but hey, since Bo asked so nicely I might as well give it to her.”
Tamsin raised an eyebrow at Bo who only smiled sweetly.
“So what do we have to do?”
“We draw a circle,” Tamsin said and looked at Trick who immediately scurried off to find them some chalk, “and stand inside it. You’ll read the spell, and you better be certain that finding a Seeker is what you want most. I sure as hell won’t help you get laid because of some misdirected succubus hormones.”
Bo rolled her eyes and stepped closer to Tamsin as Trick drew a circle around them.
“I’m not asking you to do this with me, I already owe you.”
“You will need her to anchor you,” Trick said.
He looked at his handiwork and nodded before continuing.
“The spell is very powerful, and if something unexpected should happen, Tamsin can be there to pull you back.”
“Unexpected? Like a sea monster jumping out at me trying to bite my head off?”
Tamsin remained silent as she grabbed the parchment and shoved it at Bo, who went over the words once.
“And here I thought it would rhyme,” she sighed.
Taking a deep breath, Bo glanced at Trick and then focused on Tamsin who nodded, before reading the spell out loud.
She felt the power of every word as it surged through her, and her single thought during those moments was that she desperately needed a Seeker. More so than anything else, because only a Seeker would find the stone, and only the stone would defeat the greatest evil they had to face so far. She could not fail, her friends were relying on her. She needed to save everyone she loved.
“And I need a Seeker for that dammit,” Bo added after she finished reciting the spell.
Suddenly the parchment began glowing and a sort of pull jerked Bo forward. She thought that she would certainly smack her forehead against Tamsin’s when they were blown apart again and Bo landed hard on her back. The air was knocked out of her lungs and she gasped as the back of her head hit something decidedly solid.
…
Tamsin’s face was hovering above Bo when her vision cleared again. Her head felt like she had partied all night with Kenzi and now had the mother of all hangovers.
“What happened?”
“Something unexpected,” Tamsin answered as she held out her hand to Bo.
She grabbed it and let herself be pulled to her feet by the Valkyrie. A quiet gasp escaped Bo as she looked around. They were standing amidst an impressive lush forest with huge trees surrounding them on every side. The sun shone brightly above and birds twittered in the trees.
“Where the hell are we?” Bo asked as she gazed around.
“I’d hazard a guess and say a forest.”
“No shit,” Bo grumbled.
“And of course no freakin’ Seeker anywhere in sight.”
Bo sighed and lifted her hand to carefully touch the bump on the back of her head. She must’ve hit a stone when she’d been blown off her feet.
“That is so not good.”
“Yeah, and it’s also not the right time of day,” Tamsin said.
“Huh?”
“It was around seven when I came to the Dal, and by looking at the sun it must be around noon here.”
“But that’s impossible.”
Tamsin looked at Bo and raised her eyebrows.
“Okay, maybe not,” Bo conceded.
Already in the next moment they heard steps rapidly coming toward them, and two men with swords broke through the underbrush and stopped dead in their tracks.
“Are we in some kind of medieval theme park shit or what?” Tamsin asked, widening her stance and glaring at the men.
“Let us pass, or we will kill you,” one of them yelled.
Bo and Tamsin exchanged a glance and stepped aside, the latter making a sweeping motion with her arm.
“By all means, go on then.”
The two men looked slightly confused, but lowered their swords and dashed past them with two large bags slung over their shoulders.
“Well, that was odd,” Tamsin remarked.
“And it’s getting even odder…” Bo added as suddenly a woman came from the same direction as the two men had.
She was wearing a skin-tight crimson leather bodysuit and held two suspiciously looking objects in her hands.
“What did I say about your naughty sex fantasies?”
Bo swallowed and gazed at the woman who scowled at them.
“I’m sorry? But you have to admit that it could be worse…”
“And she already brought the toys.”
Even Tamsin’s voice sounded a bit breathless and Bo smirked at her from the side before her attention was drawn back to the scene before them as another woman with long dark hair and piercing blue eyes along with a handsome man joined the goddess in red leather.
“Oh my…”
“You know what succubus? I might forgive you for messing this up… doesn’t that sight make your eyes water, or your mouth, or…?”
Bo smacked Tamsin against her stomach with the back of her hand.
“Shut up.”
Bo was still staring at the admittedly very damn attractive trio before them when an old man with messy white hair stepped from behind a tree, gasping for air.
“Alright, so much for naughty fantasy…” Bo mumbled.
“And here I thought…” Tamsin began but Bo silenced her with a glare.
The man with the shaggy brown hair had a sword and pointed it toward them as he took a few steps.
“Return the stolen goods immediately and I will assure you a fair trial,” he said.
“Stolen…? Oh shit.”
Bo slowly raised her hands and tried to look as innocent as humanly possible.
“Listen, we didn’t steal anything. The thieves went in that direction, I think.”
Bo jerked a thumb behind her and smiled.
“How foolish do you think we are?” the blonde asked.
“You sure are pretty dense if you think you can accuse us of stealing,” Tamsin answered.
And suddenly the atmosphere was a lot tenser than the moment before.
“She’s telling the truth,” the blue-eyed brunette suddenly said.
…
Present
Richard grabbed the dagger from its place on the altar and whipped around to block the attack of a D’haran soldier. Their swords met in the air and Richard ducked away to deliver a blow to the soldier’s shoulder. He groaned and stumbled away, giving Richard enough space to jump past him and run toward Kahlan who had an arm securely wrapped around Bo’s waist.
Bo was bleeding from a gash on her forehead and Richard was pretty sure that she had another wound somewhere else, judging by the blood on her hands and clothing.
“Tamsin! No!”
Cara joined them, carrying a dead Tamsin in her arms.
“We have what we came for, so let’s get out of here,” Cara said, jerking her head toward the front gate.
They needed to leave the temple before reinforcements reached them. They had barely made it to the dagger as it was, and their plan to trick the D’harans with the help of Bo and Tamsin had spectacularly failed. It was his fault, Richard knew. But he just hadn’t been able to kill the soldier, as Tamsin and Cara had insisted. It wasn’t his way.
“Alright, stay behind me.”
Richard gripped his sword tighter and put the dagger into a sachet attached to his belt.
Their way out of the temple was completely free and no D’harans tried to stop them. The walk back to their little camp took longer because Bo wasn’t able to move quickly and Cara did have a hard time carrying Tamsin although she didn’t admit to it.
So instead they stopped on a little clearing when they couldn’t see the temple anymore and the Mord’Sith carefully placed Tamsin’s body on the lush grass. Bo sank to her knees, sobbing quietly, but Kahlan rested both hands on the succubus’ shoulders and looked into her eyes imploringly.
“Bo, listen to me, it will be alright.”
…
Two nights ago
“You want us to sleep on the ground?”
Tamsin crossed her arms in front of her chest and raised her chin defiantly while Cara spread her bedroll on the ground and glanced up at her with a raised eyebrow.
“You think you’re too good for that?”
“What if I am?”
Cara got to her feet and moved to stand in front of Tamsin.
“Then you better get used to it.”
“Or what?”
“Or you will get a taste of my agiel,” Cara said, but Tamsin only cocked her head to the side and smirked.
“Is that a threat?”
With a swift movement Cara drew her agiel and the quiet screams embraced them as the weapon hovered in front of Tamsin’s face.
“That supposed to scare me?”
A small smile settled on Cara’s lips and Tamsin took an involuntary step backward.
“This agiel can cause you pain you have never experienced before,” Cara said slowly, moving the agiel back and forth between them.
“Then show me what you’ve got,” Tamsin answered. She returned Cara’s smirk, firmly expecting that nothing could ever surprise a thousand year old Valkyrie. But the pain that shot through her veins and set her very being aflame was unlike anything she had ever felt.
Tamsin gasped and her eyes widened, and she would’ve simply dropped to the ground had Cara not removed the agiel in that moment.
“Holy shit!” Tamsin gasped and Cara smirked self-satisfied. She put the agiel back in its holster and turned away.
“Told you.”
…
Tamsin was standing near the fire, staring at Cara who was resting on her bedroll, facing away from them. She rubbed the spot on her stomach where Cara had touched her with the agiel.
Kahlan joined her and smiled knowingly.
“The two of you are fairly alike, you know.”
“Really?” Tamsin gazed at Kahlan from the corner of her eye.
“Yes, both of you won’t let on how much you truly care, and beneath all that rough hard surface lies a good heart.”
Tamsin snorted quietly and clasped her hands behind her back. She didn’t answer and Kahlan just smiled knowingly before she brushed a few strands of hair out of her face.
“But I have to admit that this little plaything, the agiel, is very effective. Like some taser, but way more awesome,” Tamsin eventually said.
Kahlan nodded, a gleam in her eye.
“It is, although I hate that it causes her such pain.”
Tamsin turned to face Kahlan, clearly surprised.
“You mean she feels that too?”
“Every time she touches it.”
“Damn.”
…
“I’m a Confessor,” Kahlan said as she added another log to the fire.
It was her watch and Bo, who hadn’t been able to sleep, had decided to keep her some company.
“And that means you can tell when people are lying?”
Kahlan nodded. “Yeah.”
“That must be pretty awful sometimes.”
“It used to be, when I was younger. But now, it doesn’t matter as much anymore. Richard is the most honest and truthful person I have ever met, and Cara, well she is Mord’Sith and I can’t read her.”
Bo cocked her head to the side and gazed at the two sleeping blondes across from them.
“I think Tamsin is pretty impressed with her.”
Kahlan smirked. “I guess.”
They sat next to each other, watching the crackling flames, as silence engulfed them for a few moments.
“So, what are your powers?”
Bo smiled and stretched her arms above her head.
“Well, you could say that I kind of make people fall in love with me, sort of.”
Kahlan turned to Bo and crinkled her brow.
“Really? That is not unlike what my Confessor power does. But once I confess someone, they are destroyed.”
“What do you mean?”
“The confessed person knows nothing else but the desire to please the Confessor. They would even kill themselves, if I commanded it.”
“And it can’t be reversed?”
“No,” Kahlan said.
“Oh, that.. sucks. I mean with me, it eventually wears off if I don’t keep doing it.”
“You’re lucky,” Kahlan sighed.
“You could say that yeah. But I get this hunger… when I need to feed on someone.”
Kahlan’s eyes widened but Bo quickly shook her head.
“That sounds worse than it is. I have it under control now. I just need a bit of energy now and then and I’m fine.”
“So we both have our burden to carry.”
Kahlan started fidgeting and eventually scooted closer to Bo.
“Can you show me? Your powers I mean. Because, you know, I don’t know…”
Bo grinned.
“Sure.”
She reached out and carefully rested her hand atop Kahlan’s. Her power’s pulsated through skin and Kahlan closed her eyes as she tiled her head back.
“Oh…”
…
Present
Bo sank to the ground, holding her stomach with both hands.
“You’re hurt.”
Kahlan gazed worriedly at the succubus.
“Feed on me.”
Bo shook her head.
“What? No, no.”
“C’mon, you said you have it under control. Just take enough to heal,” Kahlan insisted.
“But… Tamsin…”
Bo was completely devastated. This had been her idea and Tamsin had offered to help, and now she was dead. And although Bo had brought Dyson back from the dead before, she doubted that she could draw the chi necessary from Kahlan, Richard and Cara. It might kill them as well and she just couldn’t risk that.
Kahlan carefully cradled Bo’s face in her hands.
“She is alright, she will be fine. Bo? Just look.”
Kahlan moved to the side and Bo slowly raised her gaze.
She couldn’t quite believe what she was seeing, but Cara lowered herself to the ground and leaned over Tamsin as if she was going to kiss her. But instead a white kind of mist left her lips and disappeared in Tamsin’s mouth. Already in the next second the Valkyrie opened her eyes and sat up, looking around confusedly.
“Holy shit,” Bo breathed.
“Told you,” Kahlan smirked.
Bo returned the smile and her eyes shone bright blue for a moment before she drew Kahlan into a kiss and sucked the chi into her body. She felt how her wounds slowly healed and let go of the Confessor before she took too much. The chi however was unlike anything Bo had ever tasted. It was odd, and the only way she could describe it was that it was saturated with love.
Kahlan breathed heavily as she leaned back and rested on her hands.
“That was… interesting.”
When Bo looked back up to gaze at Tamsin, both Cara and her had an odd look on their faces.
“Alright, we should keep moving!” Richard yelled as he returned to the little clearing, sword in hand.
“We’ll go back to camp and then catch up with Zedd at the ruins. He should’ve prepared everything by now.”
Bo nodded and got up from the ground and held a hand out to Kahlan who took it and stood. The Confessor walked over to Cara and they shared a look before they followed after Richard.
Tamsin waited for Bo and they both stood in the midst of the little clearing, gazing at each other thoughtfully.
“I am so glad you are alive,” Bo whispered.
“So am I, believe me, so am I.”
“You coming?” Cara called.
Kahlan and she were waiting ahead of them expectantly staring at the succubus and valkyrie.
