Readings: The Yuletideload!

Dec 30, 2007 22:39

In the spirit of bravecows's concentrated fic-rec effect, I am putting up a brief (very brief) list of my favourite Yuletide readings. This is by no means anything more than a representative sample of the awesome fabulouscakesness of this year's reading roster (A Wrinkle in Time! Temeraire! Coffee Prince! NOBUTA WO PRODUCE!!), but here, have a taste:

Insecurity Comics: It's Dinosaur Comics fic! No, for serious. I honestly never thought I would see the day. The best part? When God speaks! (NO REALLY. GOD TOTALLY ROCKS THE FRAME.) You should really go see for yourselves, awesome dude or lady!

Unseason: From the second book to Bujold's Chalion series, which dealt with my favourite trickster to show up in some time: the Bastard, whose semi-reluctant saint has to unravel an unholy tangle here. Stays remarkably true to the series' language and tone.

Love Story: The ladies of Artemis Fowl decide how it all goes down. Uh, so to speak. An adventure in four hilariously in-voice parts.

Bright Moon, Who Goes Farther Still: This reads like a missing chapter from the book, and expands on the does' stories in ways I didn't even know I wanted until I got it here. It seems that I will never be tired of reading about Watership Down, but any source that produces such wildly lovely writing must be worth rereading, if only to catch all the nuances and references in this astonishing, poignant, complex interweaving of myth and time.

Sea Legs: This fic explores the "and then" from Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and I have to say I'd kind of wondered what that adjustment would be like, the afternoon of a return, along with the knowledge that I would never go back. And now I know.

Outliving The Universe: Susan, after, and then Susan after all.

The Journey West: Aaaaand this might be my new favourite Yuletide fic of them all. Gave me the shills and chivvers, it did; I think the hair actually rose off my neck somewhere around the last line, because this is my journey, too. Monkey travels to the New World.

Enjoy! And wave a sweet goodbye to 2007 while you're at it... Keep safe tomorrow night, and if you can't be good, be AMAZINGLY AWESOME.
