We don't learn anything about Snape in HBP that we did not already know apart from the fact that he had a muggle father - which was irrelevant anyway. We don't learn anything about Snape himself - we don't get that until The Prince's Tale in DH - and even that is incomplete and one-sided. HBP is about Harry learning about Voldemort's past and the Horcruxes - the journey he takes with Dumbledore and the effect that Dumbledore's death has on him. Snape is little more than a catalyst to that - a plot device to move that part of the story forward."

"I am happy to report that it is a lovely book, with a lovely cover with an emblem saying “unofficial” at the bottom right, it is very well produced and has lots of photographs that will appeal particularly to our American cousins. Now I know this thread is not about saying well done to Steve Jan Vander Ark for a lovely book - it is about seeing, in this case, whether SVA has learnt anything at all and has copied, plagiarised, paraphrased, plagiaphrased etc etc, so I am very happy to report that SVA has done his utmost to only occasionally rearrange Rowling's words when he lists her creatures etc, and has made a real effort to write in his own voice and style."
