Good Question!!! Where are the moderate clergymen? Are they afraid to speak out right now because their congregations are more conservative than they are?

I don't believe Rick Santorum speaks for most Catholics in this country either. I think he is a dangerous extremist who seems to be on a mission to start some kind of holy war. And our journalists just sit there on their hands with their mouths open. I was surprised that Bob Shieffer went after him, since Shieffer is a conservative and a friend of George Bush!

I wish Santorum would stop talking about how Obama is forcing secularism on churches when Santorum would love to force his own agenda on everyone else - especially women! He doesn't even believe in prenatal testing, which would include common things like testing for protein and diabetes, as well as RH factor testing. I had to have the RH testing each time I was pregnant because my husband has positive blood, while I have negative. It can be life-threatening for the mother and baby if you don't have testing. Ultras-sounds aren't just for women who want abortions - they can show if a child has a kidney problem or spina-bifida. Denying someone that technology is just incomprehensible. Oh, but Santorum doesn't want to deny everyone - just poor women who depend on the government.

I am a Protestant and I am a Christian, and Franklin Graham is going to hell as far as I'm concerned. What he said on that show was just creepy and bizarre. Why would anyone just accept that Newt Gingrich is a Christian "because he told me" and then insist that Obama is a "Muslim by birth." There is no tradition like that - he is just nuts. I think he's trying to make people think Obama is the Anti-Christ. *shudder*

One more thing - I think this all goes back to the takeover of the Southern Baptist Convention by right wingers. Things were not as heated as this when we were kids. People were much more live and let live. I just can't believe the scorched earth religious rhetoric going on right now. You're right - it's just fear mongering.
