And here's a thought for the day:
Snape must have hated Halloween because that's the day that Lily died. When he found out that Harry had attended the Death Day Party in Chamber of Secrets, did he possibly wonder if Harry was trying to contact Lily? Had he ever thought of doing that himself when he was younger and in the middle of his worst grief, just as Harry spoke to Nearly Headless Nick about Sirius?
