There are lots of war movies on cable this weekend, so I watched parts of the "Patton" with George C. Scott twice yesterday. One of the final scenes caught my eye because it reminded me so much of the way David Yates framed Snape on the stairs at Malfoy Manor. In fact, the scene with Snape looks better than the one in Patton.
So here is my salute to two ultimate soldiers. All quotes are by George S. Patton.
So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.
And I see not in my blindness
What the objects were I wrought,
But as God rules o'er our bickerings
It was through His will I fought.
So forever in the future,
Shall I battle as of yore,
Dying to be born a fighter,
But to die again, once more.
Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their ingenuity.
If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking.
Take calculated risks. That is quite different from being rash.
A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week.
Courage is fear holding on a minute longer.
Moral courage is the most valuable and usually the most absent characteristic in men.
Watch what people are cynical about, and one can often discover what they lack.
As for the types of comments I make, sometimes I just, By God, get carried away with my own eloquence.
