a sign that her parents are aging, and I took that ball and ran. I ran rather far, and before hitting POST it came to me that I may possibly be a maudlin sort. Which is fine, when it's my own journal, but there's no sense in crying on my bar stool in someone else's saloon.

So here was what I said:

***

I had a contract with my parents that stated they were in their 50s. I was being generous on that, or mulish and sulky, because what I wanted to say they were in their 40s but if they insisted they were in their 50s, [sigh] fine...

As I was in my 30s at the time, and the youngest of five, I recognized that was becoming untenable (we'd blown past unseemly), but still. Aging. I don't mind it in me, but in my parents? Let's just slow down here, all right?

And now that they're no longer here to rail at for breaking that contract, I still feel the same way. I can get old and toothless, but it isn't fair that they aged, and it never will be.
