True Blood 1.04
Ok, I'm on board with the show. This episode, while heavy on the TMI (Jason's "eggplant" penis), it also solidified the season long mystery. Looks like there's a serial killer in town! Someone who hates fangbangers (great term) and may hate Jason. That, or Jason is just really unlucky with his choice of lays.
And Tara, who is quickly becoming an awesome character. Sure she pulls the race card out constantly, but the way the show is portraying her extensive knowledge and tragic backstory is brilliant. She could have easily been the "mad Black woman" (Tyler Perry's phrasing, not mine), the writers decided to give the character depth to explain why she is like that.
It's odd, isn't it, that I've left the main character, Sookie, for last (or near last). Well, she's not quite as interesting to me. She's blond and adorable and seems naive. We saw a brief glimpse into her youth as a telepathic girl and how it affected her family, but I'd like to know more about her. She's something of a mystery, or are there no other previous moments of interest to bring up?
Someone with moments of interest is Bill, who I wish we saw more flashbacks about. Or at least context! Since I'm all in for the show (at least the season), I suppose I'll hear more about that, just need some patience.
Heroes 1.03
Sylar as a partner, worst idea EVER. Angela Petrelli what the hell are you thinking? I mean, you fed him one of your employees? I keep wanting you to have a good side, but this is making it very difficult to buy into. So she sends him out on a mission, and he's good for like 10 minutes until he gets a hold of Jesse with his solid sound waves or something. Point is, the villain is still a villain (not fully sold on the over-use of the word) At least Angela half heartedly admitted making a small error in judgment, putting him back in jail...
I like Daphne, she's spunky. I hope we see more of her, so she's not just stereotypically cheeky without other substance. Because that could get annoying.
Guess what metaphor I picked up. Claire's Sylar attack == Hero Rape. Just saying. That scene in the storage container was a little heavy with that point. I'm not entirely sure what Claire' bio-Mom was trying to prove with that, though. I get that she wanted to know the truth, but almost suffocating your daughter normally isn't how you go about doing such things.
Looks like we have a substitute for Isaac! I'll need to get a better and longer look at those paintings, just to see if they depicted events that already happened or future events. I recognized Claire in her cheerleading uniform in one, then in another I saw Hiro or Ando... I'll need a better look at them. Question - whatever is in that tape player, that gives whomever listens to it Isaac's ability? Because last I checked, Parkman's gift is telepathy.
Daphne, Hiro, and Ando. I'm thinking Daphne either partners up with them for the greater good, or she ends up turning Ando over to the dark side. On another note, who's her boss? I'd say Linderman, but we know he's a weird invisible life force thing. Last week I was going to say the Haitian, but seeing as she's stealing from him, that's unlikely. Maybe some third party we haven't met yet. Then I'm going with some sort of anti-Company, like a more evil version, maybe hell-bent on unlocking the secrets of the abilities.
So not!Niki isn't Niki after all! But they were both born at the same hospital by the same doctor on the same day (?) I think that's what that record said. So are they twins? Is Tracy some sort of creepy lab experiment? Are both Niki and Tracy creepy experiments? Creepy.
The bottom line, I really enjoyed this episode a lot. It seemed to explain a lot from last week and tightened the focus on a few characters instead of all of them. I enjoyed the break from Mohinder. I'm just a tad disappointed that it looks like he'll be a major focus of this Volume's plot. He's just so boring, and when they try to make him interesting, he becomes a maniac. Don't like either side of him.
Fringe 1.04
Wow, it only took four episodes to sell me on the premise. This episode felt like it should have been last week's episode, but eh, not important. What is important is the pattern and this "Observer". Wow, what a creepy character, not going to lie. Creepy, yet somehow I know he's not a baddie.
And this cylinder/beacon business is fascinating. So it is related to the Pattern, and it's broadcasting something. I hope this will tie into the larger picture sometime. I don't really see this being dumped from the major plot. It seems kind of important, and this Observer knows where it came from and where it's going. And Walter had been working on a subterranean torpedo of somesort, so is this is? Is this the descendant of that idea? Is it from the future? Am I really speculating about this?
I know the answer to that last one, it's a yes. Yes, I've hopped the fence. That means both the new shows I tested out passed and are now a part of my schedule. Whee! I'm not surprised this week's episode was wonderful, it was cowritten by JJ Abrams, and as soon as I saw that, I knew this was gold.
With all the good, there must be a bad, and for me, that was Peter. His smugness got to be downright irritating, but I hope that'll change going into next week, what with his newfound revelation about fringe science and all. But seriously, his constant nagging and naysaying was really bringing things down.
And then there's Astrid, who is sorely underused. I keep thinking the character's going to be developed, but she's a nobody. She's playing the role a random disposable character could play. Honestly, she's really forgettable, and I wouldn't mind hearing more than a few lines from her, if only to justify the character.
Pushing Daisies 2.01
I am so glad this show is back. The colors! The cute names! The "Trademarked"! There is nothing like sitting back and watching a fairy tale unfold before me week after week. I mean Ned and Chuck were so adorable this week. I know they're always adorable, but something about them carefully avoiding each other and slippers with bells made it all the better. And then Chuck moved out, but then Ned embraced it and got all of Chuck's old stuff back in her apartment! Sweet!
And you know what else is sweet? Honey. What better for Chuck to investigate than a bee murder mystery! Like every Daisies mystery, the result was unrealistic and odd, but who doesn't want to have a queen bee in a plastic honey comb to keep in your mouth to have the hive swarm around your bare flesh? I mean, duh, right?
But outside of the CMotW (cute mystery of the week), there was a whole lot of character revelations. I mean, Lily slept with Vivian's fiance and Chuck was the result of that sordid affiar. And Lily went to a convent! And sent Olive there! And there was almost singing! (so close, maybe next week)
And then there is Ned. And Ned's Dad. Who visits the Pie Hole. Interesting... I have a theory about him, but I'm not sure if I am ready to share it or not. It kind of feels like a lame fan fiction premise.
Happy Time Temp Agency! What a wonderful Dead Like Me reference. I know I'll be reading way more into it, but gosh how sweet would it be(e) to have both shows exist in the same universe. Also, what's Fuller's obsession with female characters with male names (Chuck, George, sorry random observation)
"And by cabbage patch, I mean lady parts" Sorry, I just needed to put that amazing line in. Sure Daises exists in this charming, colorful, stylistic world, but I love the snap back to reality lines. Mostly Emerson delivers them, but Olive talking about the Vajay-jay like that was totally unexpected and awesome.
Would you believe I did all this, and still I have more shows to talk about. Well TV, I've missed you lots. Now I have too much to cover! Coming up next, Dexter, House, and Dirty Sexy Money.
