Stephen Colbert is my hero

Aug 01, 2006 00:01

So not only is tonights Word "wikiality," referring to wikipedia and such, but Stephen Colbert actually changed the meaning of Oregon on this page. See he said on air that he couldn't decide what he actually called Oregon, so he wiki'd it. Here's what the original entry said (I found it per Google Cache):Oregon: When it seems even remotely relevant, Colbert accuses the Pacific Northwest state of Oregon of being "the Canada of California" and displays a graphic of Oregon decorated by the white-and-red maple leaf imagery of the Canadian flag. Colbert sympathizes with Washington state because it is geographically between two Canadas (the real Canada and Oregon). During the April 6th 2006 episode Colbert also indicated that Oregon was "Washington's Mexico", when interviewing Rep. Darlene Hooley of Oregon's 5th district for "Better Know a District."
So Colbert had called Oregon both California's Canada AND Washington's Mexico. Colbert decided it was more like Idaho's Portugal. Stephen then goes on to say how anybody can go and change anything and it is regarded as fact. He said he changed Oregon's status, but I wasn't certain. So I go to check wikipedia to see what SC changed, if anything. So I come upon the recurring elements of the Colbert Report article, and I found he had actually altered it.Oregon: I have always referred to Oregon as "Idaho's Portugal".

I want to see if the bloggers are all abuzz over this tomorrow, I know I am.
