Ok, I wanted to get across a concept that I have about NT versus the S so I need to put this up as a separate post ;)
I'm an INTJ with an IQ measured around 135-145 so forgive my absolute analysis, pondering.... Arrogance, conceit and anything else...
Anyway, I believe there is 2 types of N (Across a normal distribution curve probably) and that

You - I think I see what you are thinking, but I think your comparisons are pretty random and not particularly meaningful. One of the issues with pattern-thinking is that other people may have a different way of perceiving (also if they think in patterns as well). I do not think Ses, in general, think linearly. I think they are concentrated on isolated points and on continuous but restricted areas. The way you describe here just suggests to my N that you think that N[T]s are far superior to Ses--or at least the clever N[T]s.
Me - It’s the ST's that I actually blame for the over structured and linear process driven enterprises that I am involved in improving. ST's are great at the here now, but they are dead in the water if they cannot see the impending battles and the required flexibility/contingency and innovation that is required. As mentioned elsewhere, ST's make great programmers and Doctors etc etc, But they don't cut it in strategy and innovation (Unless they are more towards the centre on the S).
Me - Why is the ST combo good/great at university and for the modern work environment?
You - It isn't. Your suggestion is a very inaccurate overgeneralization.
Me - I disagree. Provide more evidence. Generalizations are correct until moderated.
Me - Sensing and thinking is what University courses require
You - I'd like to see the ESTJs do math. If you look more accurately, I think you will see that not all university courses are similar.
Me - Most E's will baulk at Maths. Even I found it a pain in the butt; it’s for people that turn their brain off. It’s like when I was doing Economics honors and they started on Econometrics... what an absolute load of tosh. They killed any student with any concepts and reasoning.
Me - it’s what structured organizations want. Intelligent drones.
You - Organizations do not want anything, people do. The western world is focused on things that should be nominally measurable (which may ironically be related to the whole overrated "science" approach). Of course, creativity is not nourished by the structures in organizations. I do not think anything in that statement is specific to university or modernity, though.
Me - Sorry, but most (if not all) universities don't care about their students in reality; they (The lecturers) are more interested in manufacturing articles to save their posts. Universities effectively operate a normal business model, they provide as little as possible to process as much as possible, they are cost constrained environments. (Process kills individuality of thought and expression as it costs more to measure).
Me - I also believe that most accountancy and computer science grads are actually ISTJ's. Process drones. Science grads, more INTJ's. I did Accountancy and damned near gave me a lobotomy. :D
