Actually to be honest I kinda get mightily pissed off with everyone in the entire TV world thinking that just because I'm English I speak like the queen with a stuffy accent, or like Spike from Buffy.
In fact I think the only programme that had someone with a different accent was Fraiser and she was from Manchester, my home town so kudos to them xx But I get what you mean, it's annoying as hell, and stereotypes are just damn annoying!!
Not seen the vampire diaries, so you'd recomend it? I watched true blood on a recommend and thought that was pants, hope the diaries are better xx
You know how many random people in England called me luv and hon? Just saying... ;)
But yeah, hey, at least the British are usually sexy and sophisticated. Glad to know it's not just me who gets ticked off by getting stereotyped. I wondered if I was extra sensitive since I'm German.
Hmmmm, not sure if I'd rec it if you didn't like True Blood. Because True Blood was actually good, The Vampire Diaries is more or less cheap crap with sexy actors. And highly slashable vampire brothers. One evil, one good. And the evil one, Ian Sommerhalder, just really, really does it for me. I say maybe try the pilot, read some fic, if you're interested then, get more.
I thought the eppy was fun, but I was a bit disapointed that they made everything kind of a parody instead of making it real.... at least that was how it seemed to me.
I too get offended by how every TV show that ever touch anything Norwegian makes us all "ja, ja..." and blond and stupid. And all men are called Olaf! (Which yeah - was a common name- like 100 years ago)
What I do love though is that there isn't many shows who pokes back at the fans like SPN does! And to be fair to them, they probably treated us fans just as 'right' as we treat them in the fics we write!
Haha, yeah, they never update their info. I don't know anyone who's called Fritz. Not even grandpas. Must also suck to be a Swedish girl, come to think of it. They're always blonde, busty and very easy.
I read later that apparetly the gay couple was based on mods over at TWOP, or well, they had their names. So on that regard, it was actually really funny. Because yes, they stabbed right back by slashing "us". ;)
Also, any other show couldn't pull that off at all, even if they wanted to.
Nobody talks like that! Nobody! Oh yes, sadly, people do. It always depends on where in germany you're from, but when I studied in Durham there were a lot of Germans around who sounded exactly like that. Well, not exactly, because that was an american guy faking a german accent badly, but the idea was generally right, i'm afraid... and i am not actually pissed off by it - or that he said "Gott im Himmel". IMO it's not that they *couldn't* find a better frase, it's just that the entire episode is so over the top that it had to be something silly he said.
I dunno. Okay though, maybe Bavarians talk like that. They can diss them. It's the average German stereotype anyways. Not Germans, but Bavarians, with their lederhosen and the beer thingy.
AHAHAHAHAHA!!! No. We come out as uptight douchebags who don't know the concept of fun and are stuck 50 years in the past, OR, football hooligans. National stereotypes never come out well.
No, no, you guys are also the sexy, sophisticated affairs who say luv and have a lot of money. From your royal ancestors. *lol* But yeah... you know, the really funny thing is, in England I got called luv and hon by so many random strangers! It just really fit the cliché. (I admit it's very nice though, if the cute waiter calls you pet names.)
