The First Scars

1/3

"I knew you were hiding something," Sam didn't have time to react before Amy's mother grabbed him by the collar of his jacket and pushed him backwards into the room. Sam just stared nervously at Amy's mother, her eyes had the crazy in them, that's for sure.

Suddenly the older woman let go of him and slapped her daughter. Sam stepped forward and grabbed the woman's hand before she could make another hit, but instead she turned around at him, her nails turning into claws. Sam tried to fight her off, but couldn't hold her off for long. He vaguely noticed Amy getting back up and hurrying over, grabbing hold of her mother's arm, but it was already in motion and the long claws scratched Sam over the side of his neck and shoulder.

"Sam!" Amy yelled, but Sam was already on the floor, using his legs to try and keep Amy's mother off him. He gasped in pain when his jacket pressed against the bleeding wounds on his shoulder as he backed himself across the floor. He looked up just in time to see Amy picking up his knife and planted it into her mother's back. Sam watched surprised as the mother collapsed to the floor dead.

"You... you just killed your own mother for me," Sam gasped, grimacing in pain and for the first time looked down at his shoulder. He was bleeding pretty bad and he felt that his head was starting to get rather heavy.

"Sam! Are you okay?" Amy came running over to him, landing hard on her knees beside him.

"I'm fine," Sam tried to reassure, pressing his hand against his neck.

"That's a lot of blood, Sam. We need to get you help," Amy stressed, not really knowing what to do. Sam shook his head to clear it when he heard the unmistakable sound of an Impala coming to a stop outside.

"Someone's coming," Amy looked towards the door, then down at Sam when he grabbed her arm. He felt his own blood slide through his fingers on the hand he had pressed against his neck.

"You have to go. It's my dad and brother. They'll kill you," Sam informed urgently, sitting up with the help from Amy.

"But I haven't done anything. I haven't killed anyone," Amy looked at Sam sadly, jumping a little when she heard footsteps somewhere outside. Sam heard it too. They were being quiet, lurking closer to the house.

"Amy, listen. They're hunters. They're not going to look at it that way," Sam explained. Amy nodded, clearly afraid, but not really willing to leave Sam behind. What if his family was as bad as her mother was? She made to stand, but then changed her mind,

"No, no I can't. You're bleeding. And after what you said about you dad..."

"Amy go! They're not bad people. My brother's the most overprotective nut-head you can find out there. I'll be fine," Sam tried to joke to calm her down. Amy groaned annoyed before finally deciding. She quickly kissed Sam on the cheek,

"Thank you."

And with that she ran over to the back door, peeking through it before vanishing out into the dark just as the already open front door squeaked. Sam closed his eyes, silently hoping that both his dad and brother came through the same door.

2/3

"Sammy!" Dean's voice was unmistakable. Sam opened his eyes in time to see his big brother brush past his dad and ran over to him,

"What the hell? What are you doing here?" Dean was fretting, but hands steady as he carefully moved Sam's hand from his neck,

"Son of a bitch!" the big brother felt sick as soon as he saw the blood covering his little brother's skin and clothing. It was exactly this day he had feared would one day come. His little brother getting seriously hurt. And he wasn't even supposed to be on this hunt!

"Sam," John knelt down beside his two sons,

"What are you doing here? I thought I told you to stay to research."

"Dad. Can't this wait?" Dean hissed, placing his bigger hand against Sam's neck.

"She's dead," Sam pointed over at the dead woman on the floor,

"Problem solved," he shrugged, avoiding John's stern look and met Dean's instead,

"She wanted to... eat me," Sam sluggishly pointed to where Dean's hand was pressing against him,

"Obviously."

"Sam, shut up," Dean's voice was soft despite the harsh order. He didn't need his brother's snarky comments pissing off dad now. Dean gathered Sam closer to him while John checked the corpse. It wasn't until Sam slumped against Dean completely that Dean decided it was time to go. Whether dad wanted to or not.

"Dad, we need to go. Sam's really hurt," Dean said, swallowing hard and gathered his brother in his arms and stood up.

"Ah yeah you're getting heavy, Sammy," Dean grimaced at the weight. Once he felt he had a secure hold under Sam's knees and shoulders, tucking his head to his chest. He didn't wait for his dad to go first and hurried out to the car and got into the passenger's seat with Sam still in his arms.

I have no idea whether you like this or not, but here's the last part anyway.

3/3

The worse part of it all was to watch dad stitch up Sam back at the motel. That was going to leave scars. Probably the first scars on his little brother's skin out of many. Sure the kid had some minor scars like any other kid. Like after a nasty fall while running when even younger. Or burning his hand on a stove. But this was the first ones resulted from a hunt.

"Dean, he'll be fine," John reassured his oldest son with a sad smile, hand steady as he finished the last stitch. He was thankful his youngest son was still out. It was hard enough to have to puncture his kid's skin with a needle as it was. Even for a though hunter like John it would've been hard for him to see his boy in pain caused by him.

"We knew this day would come. It always does," John told Dean. Dean quietly nodded and sat down beside Sam on their shared bed, running a hand through his brother's dark hair. He remembered the first time he got hurt on a hunt. In fact it had been on one of Sam's first hunts. Well of the very few ones he was allowed to come along on. A damn poltergeist had tried to get a hold of Sam so Dean distracted it by allowing it to throw him around.

Once John finished stitching and bandaged the wounds, in a rare case of affection he stroked his youngest son's cheek. He stood up and vanished into the little kitchen while Dean stayed with his brother, waiting impatiently for him to wake up. Sam showed first signs of waking about thirty minutes later and Dean was hovering over him with a cheeky smile - covering the worry he was feeling.

"Hey there, Sammy," Dean carefully took hold of Sam's hand when he tried to touch the gauze over his wounds.

"Hey don't touch that," Dean put Sam's hand down, but Sam wasn't staying and sat up a little unsteady,

"Want to tell me what happened?"

Sam was looking around the room, as if looking for something.
"Eh, I think she figured out I was a hunter," Sam lied,

"Got the upper hand. I'm sorry. I should have tried to call you when I found out it was her, but I didn't get the chance."

Dean looked suspicious, but sighed and let it go,
"Well, you did good that what's matters. And chicks digs scars," he snickered and Sam lightly on the gauze. Sam had that typical deadpan look on his face and Dean had to laugh, carefully pushing Sam back down onto the bed.

"Now get some real sleep. I'll be right here."
