I was talking on the phone to Bethany last night, and I think I worded my week in the best way possible without actually saying "my week was. . .". I said that it's astounding to see the difference between where my heart was at the beginning of this week to where it now is, and it is completely because of God's amazing workmanship. This week I was reminded of something I have always known but never really did that often. Life is so much more wonderful when you put down the pen and allow God to write your life story. It's quite enjoyable to sit back, relax, and admire as His pen sweeps over the pages, writing out such an incredibly exciting book that I could never possibly think up. God is STILL good.
I don't need to get into the long story of how my heart has changed so much, because the people I wanted to share it with, I have. I'm sure I'll share with some others who I think would appreciate the story, but it's not something I want to broadcast.
At the beginning of the summer, I felt like there was just something wrong about where my heart was and I felt uneasy about serving at Harlow. It's just one of those things where you are always praying, "God, show me where my heart is supposed to be and please take it there." This week God did exactly that. After a pretty emotionally and spiritually trying week (about 1/4 of which had to do with my campers), God set my heart exactly in place where it needed to be, and I don't think I can say exactly how. He just did in all His divine power and majesty. He is very good at what He does.
And now, for my favorite parts of the week:
- cuddling with Mary Anne and Kristin every night before bed
- ebonics lessons with Mary Anne and Kristin (Me: nice to meet you Mr.Smith. I am very intrigued by your daughter. Mary Anne: Yo pops, yo' daughta is a nice piece of chicken. What's fo' dinner?)
- the jock nod with Beandip
- shaking your face, as Stormy and I call it
- Stormy's camper that thought he was a dog and Stormy named Qui-Quaig
- my camper Ashley and her improper english (her said that. . )
- Chewie: "I think Sampson had a mullet. He was probably all, 'yo Philistines, business'" (don't forget the hand motions!)
- being caught in the middle of a grape fight
- having my corn pops fly everywhere at breakfast because I judo chopped my spoon trying to keep Chewie's hand out of my cereal
- Cone's camper Kyler
- the belly flop competition with Chewie and Stilts bleeding from it
- teaching my campers Meredith's rap dance
- doing the reindeer dance on stage with 10 other counselors
- Frodo resting his chin on my head, because I am that short
- the many wonderful conversations with Greg, Kristin and Mary Anne
- receiving a book from Greg as a gift
- my campers in general. They were wonderful.
I was on a team with Chewie again this week, and it was hil-arious. That guy cracks me up, and I am glad for his friendship and hilarity.
