There is this woman whose office is right across from me at work who has been blasting the Mamma Mia! soundtrack non-stop for two weeks. I kid you not. Constantly. In a loop. Now, I like ABBA as much as the next guy. If fact, I like ABBA much more than the next guy. I love it. I brought an ABBA mix CD on tour, for example. But, even I have my limits. For one thing, it's not actually ABBA, but actors covering ABBA. For another thing, I have heard it probably 80 times now. A cookie tastes great but after 80 cookies you want to throw up. Previous to this CD she played this instrumental elevator muzak type CD. It sounded like the Chariots of Fire song but not as good, and more syrupy. That one I have probably heard 800 times. I used to have to leave the office just to clear my head from it. That one was awful. Then one day she came in raving about how she had just saw Mamma Mia! and loved it and went out and bought the soundtrack. She popped it in. I was so excited! It was the first time she had ever changed the CD. The first day was heaven. This music had actual drums. And it was basically ABBA. Now, I am not so sure. Perhaps it was better when the music was just plain horrible, instead of this over-repetition of something I actually love. Would the same thing happen if she played the Troggs straight for two weeks? I think it would with anything. But, truly, I am exaggerating. It is not that bad. I much, much, much prefer the ABBA to the instrumental CD. I am grateful to God for the change. It is getting tiresome but at least it didn't start out tiresome from the first time I ever heard it, like the other one. I bet I could listen to a Troggs musical on CD for a whole month in a row before it started to get old.
