Right, stuff what has happened since I last remembered to post.
First off, I went to Otley to dance at the festival with Mons Meg. Arrived in the dark so had to put the coffin up by braille (looked OK when I finally saw it in the morning so point for the tent) and both nights, on getting back to the tent, it crunched when I had to open the door. Little bit frosty then... A good fun weekend: I remembered all the dances, danced in some cracking pubs (and there are tons in Otley), went on an accidental glass breaking spree, did a fantastic unplanned dance spot in the ceilidh (which was acappella which seemed to work really well) and pretty much froze on the Sunday. One dance (not one I was in thankfully) ended up being accompanied by the world's worst kazoo player and the session scene was either a choice of diddly irish or just plain woeful, but the weather stayed nice (if nippy) and fun was had by all. (Plus Andy got to do his Christoher Lee bit, by holding up a sword lock in front of a truly apocalyptic looking sky).
Drove to work on Monday morning despite having been sick in the night. this proved to be a bit of a mistake as I then proceeded to throw up on everyone at work before being sent home where I promptly threw up on the cat who was less than impressed...
Having recovered by Thursday I went to see Dredd at the cinema on Friday.
Cracking film, even if it was in 3D which I hate. Simple storyline but with some lovely bits in the background for fans and Karl Urban is an excellent Dredd. Especially as he never takes off his helmet as is right and proper. How he maintained that scowl through the whole film is a mystery.
Went to Nancy Kerr and James Fagan's 15 years on the road show at Cecil Sharp House on the Saturday. It was lovely to her them playing with all their guests and they were on cracking form. They didn't sing 'Blue Murder' but they did finish with a scaldingly fast 'Dance to Thi Daddy'. Excellent stuff.
On Sunday I wombled back to the cinema to see Lawless.
Another really good film very much dominated by a cardigan wearing Tom Hardy as the middle brother Forrest, which, considering the rest of the cast is pretty damn good is really quite impressive.
Went to the Freaks weekend in Youlgreave at the weekend. Don't think I'm going to go again. While it was lovely to see old friends, and I enjoyed playing in the band and the walk back from the pub on the Sunday (some of us went back by a different route which turned out to be a little bit muddy in places with some interesting stiles), I was completely put off by the bloke who kept trying to take over the band. Bad enough when he was playing the accordion but the syncopated snare drum (for Border Morris!?) completely did my head in and I just can't be bothered anymore with that kind of thing. I should have gone up to Newcastle for the North East Sword dance thing but never mind, you live, you learn.
I have order Phil Heaton's new rapper book though. Am completely, embarrasingly excited about the while thing. A whole book (and something rom) about rapper!
This weekend, am hoping to get up to Nottingham for a Mortimers practice and do some work for a job interview next week since I've a Mabel tour on the Tuesday evening and the Bellowhead Album Launch for Broadside on the Wednesday and the interview is on the Thursday
