I need a new rage icon

Color me annoyed. Per yesterday's entry, I wanted to run again today to see if I could do better, but after a couple minutes, I had to stop. Not because my body refused, but because I got to be a bit sketchy about my treadmill.

Background: I've owned my Proform Crosswalk 375E treadmill for a couple years now, and it's seen moderate use by one to two users in all that time. It's a budget model, for sure, and I can't complain about its performance to date. We'll typically use it for half an hour at a time, at speeds between five to six miles per hour, for a total of four to six times per week between both users.

The problem is this intermittent clicking noise, loud enough to be heard over my iPod. The noise happens at any speed over 4mph, and only when someone is on it and running. The noise specifically happens when you lift your feet off the belt, during that fraction of a second that you're airborne while running. I'm a bit of a fattie (215lbs) but my wife isn't (130-ish), but we're both seeing the same symptoms.

There are no accompanying symptoms. No burning smell, no funny sounds from the motor, no belt slippage, and the belt is centered on the deck. About the only thing I can guess is that the deck is bouncing up after the impact of each footfall. The noise is intermittent - it'll happen for three to four minutes at a time, and then stop for awhile, then start up again.

I'm nervous that we're about to break the damn thing, and that someone's going to get injured.

It's probably better that I don't run anyway. For those few minutes I was on, I noticed my calves and Achilles tendons were kind of sore, even after stretching them. Better give them a day to rest.
