Just a meandering thought...

Brought on by the book I just finished, a conversation and my inner-monologue.

No one has the right to judge anyone but themselves. To spin that around, the only judgement of yourself that will ever matter is your own. In the end no one judges you, not even God*. God just holds the mirror I think.

*Used to connotate the Divine in whatever form ( Read more... )

Word. But I'm sure God's a more gentle critic than I am.

You, me and every non-megalomaniac. I think it's profoundly against human nature to ever be completly content with ourselves or our surroundings. But when applied properly, it's a wonderful thing, because that's what spurns us to grow and develope and change.

What the hell is that happy horse-shit? Nope! Wrong! Seriously!

Everyone knows the only opinion that matters is mine. *ting*

But seriously. As I understand it, as you have written it, I do think that is dead wrong. If you expand on that idea, I might decide that that is not what I thought you meant, but until then: Wrong!

What book was it BTW?

The basic line is this. There's no such thing as "sin", there's no concept of that in the divine scheme of things. Sinning is a failing against the standards that you hold yourself to.

It stems from my belief in ethics and not morality. Morality is personal, not sent down from on high. Thus, there is no higher power that judges you, in the end, you decide the fate of your soul. If you believe in Heaven and Hell, then you decide which one you end up in. If you believe in reincarnation, you slide back into the Cycle in the position you feel you've earned. If you believe in nothing, then you don't pass Go, you just... go...

It's hard to explain typed, it's much easier to verbalize, that and I can stun the listeners into complaicence with my dazzling good looks. *grin*

The book, btw, is "Exile" by, R.A. Salvatore. It's the second book of the Dark Elf Trilogy. It's a D&D book. *smile*

Wow! I so disagree!

Seems to me that our entire culture has swung too far into excessive individualism and cultural relativity. Where are the boundries? We live in a society, and that society maintains the right to judge you. Okay, if I kill someone, no one is going to give a shit that I think it was "okay" for me to do it. The courts are going to try me, and I will live by their judgement. That is a society, and that is the way it should be.

We are social creatures and not isolated individuals. It's no wonder to me that the whole goddamn country is on prozac. We feel totally isolated and alienated from everyone around us because we are such high and mighty "Individuals". We are all just "bowling alone".

Nonononono, that's where we're not understanding each other. I'm not speaking from a level of society. No, there are laws, and it's important that there are. I'm not talking about within society, within society I hold the *opposite* view. I totally agree with you that we are growing too isolated and hands-off ( ... )

so you have an LJ? this is good. I thought I wasn't going to hear from you much after you moved. Word is that SD has a game on the 5th saturday of this month which some of us SB folks are planning to attend. You gonna be there?

That being said, You've been added to the friends list. If there's still any question as to who I am, add the prefix "sexy" and the suffix "wizard" to my username.

You should also know that the story of your marriage proposal is something that many people have now heard, it being the only story about marriage that I genuinely enjoy.

Holy shit! It's fucking *great* to hear from you man! You're on the list now too, so you can see the actual journal :-)

Yes, the SD game is on the 5th Saturday, and yes I'll be there. So will the wife as a matter of fact.

Glad you like the proposal story, but who'd you hear it from?
