Okay, I'm a little annoyed about this right now. I'm sure I'll get over it in about an hour or two, but as I can't call Doug to complain about it, LJ seemed the proper avenue.

There are thing in my job that try my patience sometime. One is my boss. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great boss. He understands family concerns, he trusts our opinions and judgements and basically treats us like the competent, hard-working professionals we are.

Most of the time. He can be touchy sometimes. For example, we were sitting at lunch today, just sort of chatting. We were talking about different breweries in the US -- my boss is a self-proclaimed beer snob. I tell the age-old joke (I swear I've heard this jokes dozens of times), "How is American beer like sex in a canoe? It's effing close to water."

Let me give you some background. First, we have joked about sex in the past and discussed it in trainings. We never got into a lot of detail, but a side-long mention wasn't that big of a deal. We even joke with a co-worker who stumbled over her words and sounded like she said that she likes abusive sex games.

Second, let me clarify that I actually said "effing", not the actual word. I said "effing". My boss looks at me sidelong and says, "Watch your appropriateness, Becca" and then continues the conversation indicating that the joke may have a lot of truth in it.

Thirdly, this is the same man, who, when I mentioned that Doug's mom was Jewish, looked at me, totally straight-faced and said, "yeah, I don't know how I feel about that, considering they killed my savior."
That was, apparently, a joke. I didn't find it all that funny.

I feel alluding to a curse word in an age-old joke isn't that big of a deal. We're all adults. No kids were in the building, no board members were expected. Joking about something like not liking someone because of their religion is a different can of worms, IMHO. Then again, I'm not the boss. I'll just have to suck up and deal, I suppose.

okay, /end whine
