I don't go to Vanguard parties much anymore, but on Saturday it was at janeehawkins's, which of course is a nostalgia trip for those of us of a certain age. So I put on my Vanguard disguise (a.k.a. the clothes I'd been wearing all day) and headed on over. I mowed half the lawn yesterday, and it was the back half at that, so the neighbors still have to look at a jungle out front. I'd already spent an hour pruning the raspberries and rebuilding the raspberry frame, so just half a yard of mowing heavy, wet grass was enough for me. Well, the party seems to have gone well enough. Nobody died, at least that I know of. People brought a lot of great stuff. Just a reminder that Denys and I are hosting a party this coming Saturday starting at 8pm. The original reason for the party was that British fans Christina Lake and Doug Bell will be in town and want to see people, but in the meantime no venue was found for Vanguard last weekend, so this will be doing double-duty as the Vanguard party this month. It seemed somewhat smaller than September's party. It never reached that moment when the kitchen was wall-to-wall people and cacophony. I don't know that anybody reads this journal who might be interested but isn't subscribed to the vanguard-disc list, but FWIW Denys and I are hosting the Vanguard party on Saturday.
