i've started an audio journal. the idea is that i carry around a tiny cassette recorder and capture the sounds of the things i do during the day. everything makes a noise, and the hope is that noise would be instantly recognizable as corresponding to the action or thing from which it came. i start the day with announcing the date but after that don't ever directly speak onto the tape. what i want is a 30 second sound collage that encapsulates the day, shrinks it down to the sound of the lawn mower starting, of my feet walking along the pavement, the bus's rumble, the clatter of a coffee shop, so that in fifteen minutes you could listen to a month.
why, you ask. maybe it'll make sense when it's done. that's the hope, anyway.
