So I was reading old posts and noticed that I wrote abuot the GREs and Rosetta Stone....
Well, I haven't done the Rosetta Stone in a long time, though I think it IS pretty fun and I definitely haven't done anything more as far as the GREs are concerned. As much as I would love to get my Masters in English it is really unrealistic for me at least as this point in time because I can't afford to take time off from work to go back to school. I also can't afford to pay for school and add thousands of dollars on top of what I am currently paying back.
I've realized that I don't necessarily need a Masters degree to pursue the career I want. I definitely want to be in the publishing world. I love books and what better way to have a career that I love than by being surrounded by things that I love? i've found that there are online courses for editing, copywriting, proofreading, etc and at the successful completion of each course one gets a certificate. And they're rather cheap courses. I figured that if I do some of those and do some freelance work to get experience and boost my resume I may have a better shot at getting into publishing. Even though I have a marketing degree, I could still use that to my advantage because a few publishing places that I've looked at were also hiring for Marketing Assistants. If I can get in that way, why not try?
My current job is a contract position that is scheduled to last through the remainder of this year. If they cannot or decide not to extend my contract I will have to start looking for work again. I'm hoping to get some online courses taken care of during this year in order to help prepare myself for the inevitable job search...dun dun dun.
OK, I'm going to read or knit now until we head out to the Superbowl party....
