Rejoice, for you don't believe there is an end

You learn how to live, when you learn how to die.

These words were from the book, Tuesdays with Morrie. It was a required reading for one of our classes, although that being said, I'm not so sure now if it was my professor who said it or if she clarified the idea.

These days, I've been observing something else... That there seems to be a forgetfulness about the end. Or rather, we'd rather not think about it. Or divert it to something fictionalized such as a movie. Death, the end, is never a pleasant idea but it is a reality which we have to eventually come to terms with.

In connection to this, not being able to think that we actually come to an end leads one to make the most of life on earth. Most of the time, this would mean taking advantage of others or securing as much wealth as possible or maybe even just leaving a legacy by being remembered in history books. All in all, the main idea is to do something for the self, so that at least the stay on earth is not regrettable in the event that the afterlife will be.

It's sad when you see that people can't come to grips with the idea of death. But it becomes pathetic when this inability causes pain or suffering for others.

When I hear of these stories, of how wealthy people would step on others to acquire such insane amounts of money...
or how incredibly cranial people would brag endlessly about their intellect and belittle those who don't know what THEY know...
or how professionals would use their expertise to manipulate people to their benefit... taking advantage of other people's needs rather than using their skills to help them...

I can't help but mutter to myself...

"I hope you can bring all that to your grave, and still enjoy it."

Now it makes perfect sense why ghosts exist. (Yes I believe they do exist... as real as the material things around us.) These are people who never were able to let go of the things of this world, setting their sights to nothing beyond this and hence even in the afterlife they are stuck in the material world.
