Today I realized how simple it is to numb yourself to feeling shame. In a way, I guess the same concept would work when it comes to silencing your conscience to make things "easier" for you. But of course, the consequences of the two is a whole different story.
Anyway, sticking to the "numb to shame" point...we were all set to go to Makati to make it just in time for this little meeting my parents had. But since we were running late (with me running last), I just put on whatever I could find in my closet in the quickest time. So I ended up wearing a ruffled khaki skirt, a navy blue cotton shirt and... my favorite pair of boots. Usually the boots actually work with the outfit, but this time it just didn't. It really didn't. Oh no, it didn't. And I realized this only when we were finally speeding off for Makati.
Despite the awkward feeling at first, not to mention the very obvious glances from other people, I eventually forgot about the look I was sporting. And really, if there really was a time when I'd be conscious about people looking at me, I'd say this one would be the worst one... at some point, a guy even did a 360 degree-turn while I passed him by. (My parents were walking ahead of me so they didn't notice). But no, perhaps it's one of my more phlegmatic days, but I really did not care... wala. Nada. Nothing.
And I would say that it was because of one thing...
when we got off the car, mom and dad finally noticed my get-up. But it took a while for mom to express what she thought of the look:
Mom: ah, I know what's wrong with this... the top doesn't match. (Which was right, either the boots or the top should go)
Me: Yeah, I should have worn something more neutral
Dad: No, honey. It's okay! She looks good in that.
Me: (AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW GAWRSH!!! *insert Goofy's laugh* uh-hyuck") Thanks Dad! *smiles*
And so I was numb to all those other weird looks I got for the rest of the day. Hahaha!
Conclusion: To know that a person who means a lot to you accepts you just the way you are... makes you realize that it doesn't matter what complete strangers think of you. :D
