And finally, as mentioned in the video: Memphis!
The woman in the far left wearing the pink is my Aunt Faye XD
So the story starts in Memphis, Tennessee circa 1951 and it's pretty much about this white aspiring radio jockey, Huey who wants to expose the world to good music which isn't Perry fucking Cuomo, i.e. R&B, swing, rock & roll, the good stuff. He finds this underground black only bar/club that this man owns who is the brother of this woman, Felicia, who wants to be a singer. Anyway, nobody at the club wants him around but eventually Felicia warms up to him despite his antics and he's head over heels in love with her. But anyway, after some long ordeals Huey eventually finds himself the DJ of the most popular radio show in town because he starts playing ~race music~ and constructs a way to get the woman he lurves on the air. They both find success but their needs and wants and are ultimately very different, especially given the era, and they find out how to work with it through it all.
Anyway, I won't give too much away because it's a pretty cheerful production but...not THAT cheerful; the ending almost made me cry tbh because very mild spoiler maybe *I found it sorta unexpected but realistic*. Felicia is also a strong character who ~does what she has to do~ which I appreciate so it's not like this OMG THE PROGRESSIVE WHITE MAN IS ALWAYS RIGHT shit. The way the stage was utilized was gorg, the singing was fabulous, and when it wasn't depressing as fuck it was really hilarious. Lolz, I went with my aunt Faye and literally 40+ of her friends/some family and the all loved it as well. I highly recommend it.
We got to go backstage to meet a member of the cast too because my cousin's friend had a hook up :D I can't wait to see it again with my parents when I go to NYC for Spring Break.
Oh and a homeless man going up and down the line outside of the theatre asking for money said my hair looked like Carrot Top's. Lolz I was trying to find money to give him and he said that. Not that that was what prevented me from giving him anything, I really couldn't find my dollar, but lolz perhaps not the best method of persuasion.
Aaaaaaaand I think that may be it for today. Lolz this post took forever to get together, look at it plz.
