Cost of the trip that was meant to be
So you wanna know how ridiculous travel costs are these days? The following are different ways of traveling to Tennant Creek from Brisbane (a pikkie for all who have no idea where it is. Brisbane is on the east coast and Tennant Creek is in Central Australia)
Option 1:
Sunlander Train- Brisbane to Townsville : $179.00
Inlander Train- Townsville to Mount Isa: $121.00
Greyhound bus- Mount Isa to Tennant Creek: $116
Total Cost= $416
Option 2:
Virgin Blue flight- Brisbane to Darwin: $199 (that is acutally a VERY good price)
Greyhound bus- Darwin to Tennant: $195 (this is ridiculous!)
Total cost= $394
Option 3:
Qantas flight- Brisbane to Alice Springs: $250 (that is a really good price for flights to alice)
Greyhound bus- Alice Springs to Tennant Creek $139
Total cost: $389
Ok keep in mind this is ONE WAY!!!! We usually take option 1 because my dad gets free transport to Mt Isa... problem with that is I have to pay adult fare because I am not enrolled in a Queensland institute! So for me it's not a good deal... it's just a rip off.
Option 2 is good because it means I can visit Joe and the kids in Darwin. However I have travelled on bus between Darwin and Tennant and it's a bitch. I remember it being 30 degrees celcius in Darwin (around lunch time) when I left. It takes over twelve hours. We got into Tennant Creek at 3am (it's winter so while Darwin is hot Tennant Creek is COLD) and the entire way south I felt my throat get sore, head ache and my nose block. By the time I got to Alice Springs I had an ear infection! This time it will be hot in Darwin to extremely high temperatures in Tennant Creek!!!
Option 3 is the quickest. I could visit my brother Jason is Alice. I also LOVE Alice Springs. However it's at least 35 degrees celcius there this time of year. It even gets up to 40! The heat is different there. It's dry not humid. It really is like being the desert. I love it. I would miss out on seeing Joe and the kids.
If I go option 2 I could go back to Sydney via Alice and see Jason. There is even the possibility that he and Pam might come to Tennant to Visit. I think that would be best. I also love Darwin. I would hate to miss out on going there again. I wanna see Naomi, Tristan, Serina and Jai'lee. I love them. I miss them so much. I wish I could see them more often. But by noticing the prices above you realise why you've only see them 3 times in your life... I wish I could just quit everything and just be there with them.
