It's been years now since my grandmother passed away and the same amount of time has gone by since I missed the Rusted Root concert that Kat took my friends to for her birthday. "Send Me On My Way" has been a favorite of mine since I was introduced to Rusted Root way back when Maddy and I first attended Camp Kon-o-Kwee and soon "Martyr" joined the little groupling that is my favorite songs. And it wasn't until I received an IM from Paul telling me that Rusted Root was at the Post Gazette Pavilion with the Clarks who I had already seen once before with Paul and Joe. Joe told me at RUSH that he would pay for my ticket so that he could hang out with me again so needless to say I graciously accepted. Our only issue even up until the day of the concert was that we needed a 4th person to go with us and Paul and Joe neglected to find one. Luckily, I got in touch with Justin Aughinbaugh who happened to not be up to anything and agreed to attend the concert with us.
We all met up at Paul's because he was going to be the one driving there which was awkward since I've only driven with Paul maybe twice since he got his license and I still haven't been able to get used to it. We stopped for a quick snack before getting there in which we got there a good . . .2.5 hours early >.< Because Paul didn't want to miss anything. *Smack* Joe ran into one of his friends from college, Paul ran into one of his friends from college, while Justin and I ran into no one we knew. Rusted Root played first, but they happened to not have a key part to their group - the piccolo player. All in all though, I loved it. I'm so happy that I got a chance to actually see the group that I've been dying to see for years. I even stood up on the hill and danced with drunken women and a very scary old man who resembled that of a hobo. A very drunken crazy hobo. Thank goodness Justin snapped a picture of him because he was certainly a memory that is way to hard to forget.
Then the Clarks came on. I never really got into the Clarks and that was always something that drove Joe insane because he absolutely loves both them and Scott Blasey. I do, however, love the songs 'Born Too Late', 'Cigarette', and 'Snowman'. I don't really consider 'The River' to be a Clarks song since it's a cover and not one of their original songs, but I do love it. I'll admit that they put on a really good show and that it had all four of us dancing around. I don't think we sat down once during their entire set (partially due to the fact that everyone on the hill was standing up). The funniest part of the concert (besides the dancing hobo) was a very drunken man turning around to us and asking Justin and I if we had stolen his 'nugget'. We both told him that Joe had taken it and he proceeded to pester him for his 'stolen nugget' and Joe's reactions were completely priceless. The only really annoying part was when Donnie Iris came out. I'm not saying that he's horrible, useless, or annoying himself, but I'm just tired of going to every concert in Pittsburgh and somehow he always manages to show up playing the same song. Luckily, they changed it up this time when they brought him out because they also brought out the guys from Rusted Root. Combined, they all sang "What's Going On".
It was cool hanging out with guys again. I'm pretty used to being 'one of the guys' and being the only girl while hanging out in a group of guys so I have a tendency to act more like a guy from time to time. Paul drove me home, Justin jumped into his car, and Joe . . .I'm not quite sure what he did exactly. All I remember is Paul and Joe offering to go out to Eat N Park to grab something to eat which Justin and I shot down due to lack of money and lack of energy.
It was fun and a great way to kick off my summer of concerts ^_^ The only major bummer? I'm Irish and quite pale yet decided to wear a black wife-beater in the sun and no sunblock . . .SUNBURN >.<
