It's a far cry from the world we thought we'd inherit
It's a far cry from the way we thought we'd share it
You can almost feel the current flowing
You can almost see the circuits blowing
Today was the RUSH concert at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Pavilion in Burgettstown. It started off with Joe picking me up at my house after I finished getting ready and meeting his friends from Pitt over at Wendy's Parking Lot. From there we attempted to find our way to the PGP which really isn't hard to find at all, it's basically a straight shot. I didn't bring my dad's GPS only for the fact that I thought Joe knew where he was going. It came as somewhat of a surprise when I was handed two pages printed straight from MapQuest and told to direct him from Robinson. We got there after almost missing the exit due to Joe's great need to try and pass his friend's car who had passed us unknowingly just before the Burgettstown exit. It didn't take long to get a parking spot which surprised me, but we parked, handed out tickets, and then proceeded to enter through the South Gate.
It wasn't long before we tossed open the Steelers blanket on the lawn right in the center section in the very center of the lawn and combined it with the two blankets that Joe's friends had brought. There was no opening act. RUSH was RUSH and no other group was to be opening. I did, however, run in to Caitlin, TJ, Teresa (Paul's ex who is basically a combination of Letta and I), and her friend who's name has completely escaped my memory. Paul sought me out on the lawn pre-concert (of course) with his dad, Tyler, and Alex in tow . . .not really, they basically left him to go get food before the show. I wasn't very happy with Pablo so needless to say he received a good hit or two from me since he, again, was in the front row thanks to his dad's boss. This wasn't the first time Paul and I had gone to the same concert and I was on lawn and he went backstage and front row (the first concert being OzzFest when I went with Morgan). He chilled up on the hill with us up until the concert was starting and then rejoined his group. Caitlin, TJ, and that crew were about a section away from us on the lawn so if I needed an escape, they were right there. The opening was hilarious! It started with a video clip, a clip of a nightmare sequence with each member of RUSH being a part, one having the nightmare then waking from the nightmare to be cuddled in bed with another member, my only fear was that once I heard the sound of a baby crying that the final member was going to be in the crib which wasn't the case . . .thank goodness. They played a few songs, I received a text from Chris asking where I was and telling me where he was and to come find him.
To be quite honest I had three reasons for going to RUSH (I hadn't planned on going until Joe offered me a ticket). Reason One being that Paul was going and I could spend time with him and actually see him. Reason Two being that as much as I used to pretend to despise RUSH due to Paul's utter love of them, I actually really like their music and have since taught myself one or two songs on bass. Reason Three was that Chris was going. At this point I think he knows I like him, in fact I believe Erin has made it a point to make sure he knows. So I wanted to see him and make it kind of like a trial date without being an actual date because that would be downright awkward. Plus it's in a casual setting and I had no idea that he even listened to RUSH. I knew he liked the Beach Boys and Metallica, but RUSH?
Apparently Rush has a rotisserie ON STAGE with them as they play their concert because a chef made an appearance at least twice to check on whatever was cooking in the rotisseries who I originally thought was either a chef or a female pilgrim. RUSH was also the first concert I have ever attended in which the band took an intermission. So at that time I decided to find Chris who was only on the right side of the lawn which was a section over so it wasn't too hard to find him. He was with Melissa who I hadn't seen since I graduated with her in '05, but she was a little tipsy to say the least. He decided to come chill with me for a little bit on the hill where we laid, relaxed and talked for a while. Found out that he just got in to RUSH not too long ago and such like that, it was awesome just sitting there and talking to him. We even got on the subject of movies because we're both huge movie buffs which was awesome to find out ^_^ He had to head back, his friends would wonder where he went off to so off he went within two songs of the second half of the concert. Then Paul came back up to hang out for a bit and then we both went over and chilled with Caitlin and TJ for a while before finally joining back up with Joe for the last remaining song. The funniest part of the concert had to be the South Park video clip of Lil' Rush, Cartman's mock band where they played Tom Sawyer with Cartman singing the words to Huckleberry Finn which then led in to the actual live version of Tom Sawyer.
We didn't even have to wait too long to even get out of the parking lot, but Joe managed to get us lost which didn't surprise me in the least. We ended up in Carnegie, stuck in construction, in a residential area, eventually getting us back to Robinson an hour out of the way.
All in all, it was an awesome concert, I'm happy I got to see someone like RUSH, to chill with people I haven't seen in a while, and to get to know Chris a bit more.
There's no bread, let them eat cake
There's no end to what they'll take
Flaunt the fruits of noble birth
Wash the salt into the earth
But they're marching to Bastille Day
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Free the dungeons of the innocent
The king will kneel and let his kingdom rise
south park,
friends,
concert
