A micro-job for LA City again

Apr 18, 2011 09:52

A few days ago I got a call from a LA City rep to work as a Poll Inspector for the upcoming election on Tuesday May 17th. This time they called me; I didn't have to call them. I'm happy to have yet another nice μjob -- yay! I just deposited the $175 paycheck yesterday from the last election (they take 4-6 weeks to arrive). Another of those nice checks will be heartily welcome!
This will be my 6th time working the polls, including my 3rd time as an Inspector (pollworker in charge). I'll be at the same CHURCH as last time, which means I know who to contact and where the chairs and tables are (well-) hidden. OK, that's cool.
I had no idea what we'll be voting on for this upcoming election, so I just now looked it up at the LA City Clerk site. Apparently the last election was a "Primary Nominating Election", while this upcoming one will be a "General Municipal Election". After a li'l searching the only races I found were listed here, containing (PDF):
2011 RUNOFF ELECTION CANDIDATES
MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, DISTRICT NO. 5
  • BENNETT KAYSER, Teacher
  • LUIS SÁNCHEZ, Educator/Parent
MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, SEAT NO. 5
  • LYDIA A. GUTIÉRREZ, Teacher/Neighborhood Boardmember
  • SCOTT SVONKIN, School Board Member

Hmmmm, I previously voted for "MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, SEAT NO. 5" (for Lydia Gutiérrez) -- it was for the LA Community College District (which overlaps into my non-LA-City area), so it makes sense to me that we'll get to participate in the vote for that runoff race. However, I suspect we won't get to vote for the "MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION" in this upcoming election (that is, I assume that race doesn't apply in my area).

The upshot of all that is that I believe we'll be holding this whole election in my area for just one runoff race. Sounds like this one will be really REALLY mellow!
