An Update of Sorts

I’m unhappy now, and I have been so for the past few days. I feel like I’ve been unhappy many times so far in this semester and I think that I can describe how that is. I know that I am less interesting when I am unhappy, as my comments are invariably colored by severe self-pity and fatalism. Indeed, I’m pretty sure most of the good things about ( Read more... )

I don’t think I’ve ever believed that I’ve obtained ... a guarantee against unhappiness. geoff November 27 2004, 23:34:24 UTC
carrot, welcome to life, eh, reality, with its ups and downs and in-betweens. if you (or anyone else reading this) knows of an indemnifier that will offer/sell me an insurance policy with a guarantee against unhappiness i'm all ears.

although we've never met IRL, in reading your lj for the short length of time i've "known" you, one thing is brilliantly and transparently clear: you are a Very Talented and i would even go so far as to soundly say a Gifted Writer... a complicated person who seems to be struggling with fitting in and, uhm, growing up/maturing.

again, welcome to The Living! :)

there seem to be two types of people in the world, those who need/have to go to school in order to learn or further their career and those who are justed gifted out of the box/womb. i just don't know any other word than gifted to apply to how you prose.

if you were to leave school, i would surely hope you would come to accept/acknowledge your writing gift/ability and pursue it with nothing less than The Full Vigor i've seen you are capable of. i'm sure you've heard of the term A Naturally Born Athlete? well, IMHO you're a rara avis of another sort: The Naturally Born Writer. i say this to you as someone who dropped out of high school in the 12th grade and who has done everything in my 48 years of life via the JFDI method (see my recently expanded lj userinfo for details).

if you need some inspiration, consider J. K. Rowling who had been writing since she was 6 and who was an unemployed single parent living on public assistance in a tiny Edinburgh flat. She wrote Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at a table in a cafe. Rowling said, "I was very low, and I had to achieve something. Without the challenge, I would have gone stark raving mad."

my over-stuffed arm-chair postulation of The Causes of your unhappiness are most likely do to 1) your not being appreciated/respected; 2) not being able to fit in.

i would hope/think/posit that if you were to focus on your writing, you would find the appreciation/respect and fitting-in-ness... the end result of which would be more happiness than unhappiness/listlessness in Your Life.

let me know if there's anything i can do to help.

with much respect from n.calif,
just my $.02,
geoff
