I had a great time with Len and his family over the Labor Day weekend. They're all such nice and welcoming people, I've enjoyed getting to know and meet them.
On Saturday morning I covered Harmony Weekend in Harrisville and dropped by the Harrisville State Park for work. While in the state park I met up with Courtney, her husband Herb and their new son Nicholas. I finally got to see him and he's adorable! He's also a big boy, only three months old and he looks like he's six months old. After I finished with work, all of us went out to eat on my way down to Prudenville. After arriving in Prudenville, Len's parents and uncle Chris arrived later. We ate dinner and chilled out the rest of the evening.
Sunday I spent the day with Len's aunt Jerry and her grandkids since the Len and the rest of them drove down to visit Len's grandpa. I slept for about 2 hours out in the living room since I hadn't slept well the night before. They got back later that night.
Monday we dropped off Len's parents' trailor at South Higgins Lake State Park and then went to Hartwick Pines State Park where I got to meet Len's uncle Mark, aunt Tricia and his cousins, Markie, Hudson, Moriah, Marion, Leah and Kaela. We walked around the park looking at some museum type stuff and some big dead tree that was supposed to be this massive tree when it was alive. The adults were skeptical that it was the same tree they remembered as a kids. Afterwards we had a picnic. We then drove back to Prudenville to pick up the pontoon boat and my car. After arriving back at South Higgins Lake State Park, we all sat around, talked and Len, his uncle Chris and dad worked on the pontoon but weren't able to get it started. Later on after dinner Len and I ended up going swimming in Higgins Lake. We all made s'mores afterwards by the fire.
Tuesday I went with Len and his uncle Chris to get some spark plugs and other stuff for the pontoon. While we were gone Len's dad got the boat started. We were afraid it was going to rain, but the clouds cleared up so we all headed out on the pontoon for a few hours. We stopped by the sunken island in Higgins Lake and swam there for a bit. Then we drove around the lake looking for certain points of interest to the family. They showed me where a house was that was once owned by some mafia guys and where Len's mom and uncle Chris grew up as kids. Co-captain Len was kind enough to let me drive the pontoon for a bit. That was pretty cool. After dinner Len took me rowing in his dad's porta-boat. It was a short ride because Len accidently bent one of the oars and we had to go back to shore. It was kind of romantic though since the sun was starting to set and the lake was absolutely beautiful. We ended going swimming later on again until it got dark. I left the camp ground about 9 p.m. and got home shortly after 11 p.m.
That's about it for now. laters.
