beware of joy

there are times when happiness can harm, when you're so full of ecstasy it brings you into pain. you could almost faint from the joy alone. because as the little beads of your life bounce in and through you, they take you over. they take the energy of your heart and make it beat faster. they take the power from your lungs and make you breathe heavier. happiness can, sometimes, be its own hell.

but once it's gone, you'll do anything to get it back.

i can now understand why people take large amounts of rather illegal and rather harmful substances numerous times a week. because without that plateau, life is so damn boring that Hemingway will make you laugh. when a man is not on unbelievable highs, he lives in a series of continual lows. things are more depressing, people are more annoying, and even the most delicious food is plain. without the high, life cannot truly be appreciated. colors aren't noticed. intricacies in every day life aren't appreciated.
life just isn't that good.

i'm not condoning the use of the aforementioned substances by any means. because those only cover up the situation and after time it only gets worse, just like your health teacher told you over and over again.

i'm just saying:
beware of joy.
if it doesn't kill you when it has you in its grasp,
it will kill you when it departs from you for a while.
