Fandom: Naruto
Characters: Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke
Word Count: 628
Dedicatedt: To my beautiful friend and fellow author obscuritystar. Happy Birthday/ feel happier present!

Summary: AU Future; After chasing him for so long, the moment of truth arrives. Naruto and Sakura finally confront Sasuke and there’s no one there to stop them this time. It’s Team Seven’s last stand, and the battle is about to begin.
A/N: Light, barely-there spoilers from ch.352 up of Naruto, this takes place around ch.356 and is what could have happened after everybody split up to look for Sasuke. Also, this was written a while ago (as in a year or two) when it was obscuritystar's birthday and I didn't have a writing journal. Thus old A/N notes at the bottom are old. Keep in mind.

Disclaimer: Naruto and all related characters and logos belong to Masashi Kishimoto.

“SAKURA-CHAN!”

Sakura landed on the nearest branch and turned around to see Naruto running up to her fast- or at least she thought it was Naruto, until she felt the chakra signature and realized it was one of his clones.

Then she saw him wave his hands and she suddenly realized the clone’s face was abnormally serious and if she wasn’t mistaken, he was mouthing something to her...?

Green eyes widened and without even thinking about it, Sakura launched herself past the clone, barely noticing the puff of smoke it gave off as it disappeared as she passed. A couple seconds later there was a second clone beside her, telling her where to go, following her as she zigzagged through the maze of tree bark and braches, and then it, too, was gone in an explosion of smoke just as Sakura burst into the tiny forest clearing and landed soundlessly beside another Naruto; the real one this time.

And before the two, looking even more impassive then the last time Sakura and Naruto had seen him, was Sasuke.

It was dead silent aside from her soft pants, brought on by her hasty departure and the abrupt rush of adrenaline pumping through her system. Every muscle in her body was coiled tight in preparation of the fight she knew would come, and this time around Sakura wasn’t going to be as stupidly naïve about Sasuke's capability of hurting her, as she’d been the last time.

“I should have guessed you two were part of the group following us.”

“Heh,” Naruto smirked. “I told you I'd drag you back to Konoha, even if I had to break every bone in your body to do it. You didn't really think I'd stop looking for you just because of what happened last time, did you?”

Sasuke merely frowned in answer.

“I hear you've gotten yourself a new team, Sasuke.” black eyes moved slightly as she spoke. “Where are they?”

“Dealing with the rest of your team, I believe.” was his stoic reply. Sakura valiantly ignored the little pang of hurt in her chest at his confirmation.

“Then I guess this is fate or something, huh?” there was a rueful grin on Naruto’s face that just looked so wrong and out of place that, for a second, Sakura almost didn’t recognize her blond team mate.

The bare trances of a near smile ghosted across Sasuke's lips. “I thought you didn't believe in fate, Naruto?”

Sakura saw the muscles in Naruto's neck go taut and her own fists clenched in response, the leather of her gloves scrapping loudly in the apprehensive silence. There was no doubt in her mind that Sasuke saw it too.

Sakura never took her eyes off Sasuke when Naruto spoke next. It was as if Naruto and her entire lives had led up to this one moment, and if she blinked, it would all be gone. She could almost here a silent clock counting down the seconds.

Five...

“You’re right, I don’t.” Knee’s bend.

Four...

“We’re bringing you back Sasuke.” Eye’s narrow.

Three...

“I will not return with you. If you do not leave now, I will kill you both, no matter what ties may have bound us before.” Hands at the ready.

Two...

“In that case,” Two voices shout at once, “We’ll break every bone in your body and make you!”

One...

“I’m going to be the strongest shinobi in the entire village; I’m going to be the Hokage!”

“I’m going to protect them, the people I love, and I will never be left behind again!”

“I will revive my clan... and kill the man who murdered them.”

And under grey clouds, three people-friends-shinobi-faught a long awaited battle that would decide the rest of their lives.

Old A/N: This fic managed to get itself written because 1)it’s Obscuritystar’s birthday tomorrow, 2)obscuritystar’s last post in her LJ made me want to cheer her up (I don’t care how long ago it was!) and 3)we’re both sick and tired of Kishimoto dragging Naruto on and on. We want the fucking Team 7 confrontation NOW thanks, and we’re tired of taking no for an answer.
