garden make-over

we're getting both the front and backgarden re-done this week. the front is turning from half drive/half garden into pretty much all drive, with a small border for mum to have a few plants. it'll mean we'll have space for two cars, but since in 2 weeks time we're getting rid of my car (don't need one, now i'm off to uni) in a way, it's ill-timed. the back garden has been a mess for years now- broken up green house, patchy grass, patio and gravel all in a weird mix. it's finally being done up properly with the garden shed my parents bought over a year ago finally coming out of its boxes and being assembled.

it'll be great when it's all done, but for now it's just a pain. my dad's been home all week, complaining i wake up too late and then don't do anything (what am i supposed to do? it's the HOLIDAYS!) the builders start work at 9am, waking me up (i know, i know, hardly that early. but i've been enjoying my lie-ins til noon) and we've got some neighbour with a stick up his arse who won't let us use the pavement to our back-garden door, with some ridiculous excuse about maintenance costs, so the builders are walking through our house all day long, so someone must be downstairs at all times. and with my sister currently living in her own little world where she never considers other people, the burden must fall upon me. i honestly wouldn't mind all that much if she were just a little bit more co-operative.

it's also come to my attention lately how bad a neighbourhood we live in. it's not known for being all that great, most of the time it's a bit of a joke to me and my friends about how unsafe it is protrayed to be. but two incidents this week have really stopped and made me think. the first was my car wing mirror being smashed for no good reason...i thought at first it was just an accident and whoever it was hadn't wanted to own up and so just left it, but the next day a neighbour noticed and said the same thing had happened to their car on the same night. who gets kicks out of smashing car mirrors? i mean, what exactly does that achieve?

the second incident is more strange that angering. the builders have brought some of those bright orange cones with them, for god knows what use, and left them outside in the front last night. when my mum and i went to pick up my sister at 10:30pm last night, we discovered one of them was missing. after a glance around, we saw someone had just taken it and deposited it around 6 houses down the road. how pointless. then, at around 12pm, before i went to bed i glanced out the window and noticed they were all gone. someone, after 10:30, had been out and decided to line them up on the road, and then some poor driver had had to stop and move them aside before continuing. again, what is to be achieved?! sometimes i really don't understand how some peoples minds work...
