darkness

A recent post from norsican had me thinking about some patients of mine.

A lot of my patients are on antidepressants, some because of frank depression, some because of anxiety / depression spectrum. The descriptions of their symptoms vary widely, but one thing I do hear often is the term "darkness".

I think I might know what this is like but I'm not exactly sure. Part of me thinks that what is often diagnosed as depression is kind of...the storms of life, or maybe a certain person's "set point". I don't know if I'm making myself clear. What I mean is that some people are "happy / normal" in what others would classify as "depressed".

I don't really have a point here. I mainly I wanted to know how you, if you know what I am talking about, would describe "the darkness". I think it might be like a spiral of negative thoughts (about yourself and the situation at hand) which scare you. They're scary because you're so close to believing them, but something keeps you on THIS side. I get like that sometimes, I guess that's how I would describe it.

Sticking with the theme of this, I really really love this song which may or may not have to do with this topic. Listen to the song here please.
