xxxHOLiC/Tsubasa post apocalyptic AU (draft) - Part 3

Aug 23, 2007 21:04

I never had much interest in X fanfic back during my early days in the fandom - it seemed like one of those CLAMP series which just didn't work in a way where fanfic would be able to capture the same mood. In fact, I got that impression with so many of my early big CLAMP obsessions that it was quite disconcerting to find myself getting so hooked on ( Read more... )

Oh no! My heart stopped there for a little. o___o

There are so many moments in this I think really wonderful, especially Sakura's concern (and Fay's... Fayness). Now that I've mostly caught up on TRC, I'm seriously enjoying this much more than ever. The image of Kuro scaring Watanuki enough to make him jump is perfect.

The way Watanuki precieves things is awesome, because it's a mix between completely lost in somplace new, having a desperate desire to trust, but being so terribly scared to in case it doesn't last. Poor poor thing. And Doumeki seems still quite in character despite everything going on around him - very level headed.

The world is still being built up very well. Particularly with the introduction of Kamui and things Acid Tokyo.

Yeah, I may have been a little evil with where I ended it this time. ^^;

Good time to catch up with TRC, there's a lot to (eventually) come which is loosely based on material up to some of the latest chapters (and there's a good chance I'll wind up inventing new stuff based on chapters that aren't even out yet, the way I'm going). Tsubasa's never gotten as much fic out of me as holic, but I really do love all the characters from both series.

Well put and very true. It only made it worse that something like this happened so soon. He's seen so many people die in this world, but he's never been able to stop caring.

EEEEE this makes me so happy and so sad. :( Poor Watanuki! And, well, everyone else too of course, especially Doumeki and Syaoran because, yikes, acid rain but that poor boy. He needs his man back in his life!

I've got to say the addition of Fay trying to get as close to Kurogane as possible was a very nice touch. It made me grin :D

...I need more! D:

Yeah, uh, there's to be a lot more on that theme to come. ^^; It's all par for the course in this world.

Well, I'm fairly sure there must be a rule that says I'm not allowed to write slash fic featuring Fye and Kurogane without at least hinting something going on there. XD Their backstories - shared and separate - have been developing in some interesting ways for me lately. ^_^

More is on the way!

Sorry I'm never timely in responding to these... I try not to read them until I have time to compose a proper reply ( ... )

'Tis fine, well-composes responses are always worth waiting for. ^_^

The Tower, the Diet Building and the acid storms are all aspects stolen from the Acid Tokyo world which the Tsubasa characters went through a couple of worlds ago. Just about everyone in that world came from X - if you didn't pick it up, Fuuma's the one in charge of the Tower, and most of the other Dragons of Heaven/Dragons of Earth are some of the more important residents living in each (the interesting little twist being that Kamui and Fuuma are leading the opposite groups in this world to their usual ones from X). Ultimately they all turn out to be friendly enough, but they're not all that welcoming to outsiders - there aren't enough resources in that world to share out very far.

However, while I don't have the full story, I think Kurogane's problem with the Tower is not so much that they're that nasty as that he got well and truly sick of Fuuma flirting with him every visit. XD

Very nice job of telling us a lot about the political line the camp has to walk ( ... )

Happy = Content not to murder us in our sleep. I love Fye logic.

Watanuki briefly entertained the theory that these people were not people at all, but some new kind of spirit here to torment him with the impression that he was - for the first time ever - the most sane and normal person present.
Spending time with the Tsubasa crew does seem to have that effect. :)

Sakura Watanuki interaction is just so ... sweet and I love the acknowledgment of just how rare that is in this world. The Tsubasa/Holic characters still being themselves and still holding onto their compassion and humanity despite the dark world they live in is what I really love about this fic.

where Fye was lounging as close to Kurogane as he could get away with.
I look forward to more of Watanuki observing Fye and Kurogane's interaction. *grin*

Doumeki would probably insist on sticking around to haunt him for the rest of his days - and he was bound to turn out to be one of those weird ones who still wouldn’t believe in ghosts even after they became one. ( ... )

Settling in with these people really is giving Watanuki some trouble. *g*

I've always thought that was one of the main challenges of turning out a good AU - keeping everyone recognisable even though they're in a different setting. Though it does help that the Tsubasa/holic characters are all distinct enough personalities that keeping them that way (with a few little adjustments, of course) hasn't been to hard.

I look forward to more of Watanuki observing Fye and Kurogane's interaction. *grin*

Should be a bit more of that to come in the next part I'll be posting. ^_~
