You know you watch too much TV when you start seeing everyone everywhere. This week on reruns of JAG, I have seen Michaela Conlin (Angela from Bones) playing a helo co-pilot, Adam Baldwin (mentioned in a previous entry, and mmm... sorry, drifted off for a sec there) playing a Navy SEAL, the actor who plays Betty's father on Ugly Betty -- don't know the actor's name -- as a hardass Marine, with a really bad Marine haircut, and in the same episode as him, the guy who played Mr. Belding on Saved by the Bell, playing a chief of airport security.

Adam wasn't as much of a shock as a pleasant surprise -- Jayne familiarized me with the concept of Adam and shiny toys that go boom. Michaela and the guy from Ugly Betty made me blink for a few minutes.

Now I'm interested to see who else shows up.

It's my 10 year high school reunion this weekend. I don't really want to go, but my best friend is going, and she wanted me to go, so I'm going. I don't blame her -- she's got a master's degree, a great job, a great house, and a great husband -- I'd want to go too! Me? I have none of those (I have... a satisfactory job, at least), and I'm the heaviest I've ever been in my life. Not to mention that at least one of the girls (and possibly two of the girls) who tormented me in elementary school are sure to be there.

I just have to remind myself that I don't care about what most of the people there think of me, any more than I did when I went there, and that it could be worse. I could be where I was four years ago, when I was unemployed, depressed, and hating life most days.

On the positive side, I went shopping for something to wear last night, liked the first thing I found, and of the three possible sizes to fit me, the smallest one fit. So all in all, it took me ten minutes to find an outfit. I love it when it's that easy.

The sky was so weird today. There aren't really any plumes of smoke, not anymore, not where I am. Instead, the sky was just white; the smoke permeated everything. And the sun as it was setting was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. It was this perfectly round magenta disc in the sky. Bright pinkish red. I tried to take pictures of it, but the camera didn't like it. I got kind of a red disc thingy. Didn't do it justice at all.

Funny enough, it looked exactly the way I've imagined the sun in Quartoth would look -- in fact, I think I may have described it similarly in the story I'm (sorta) writing. I'll have to check, see if I can fine-tune the description a bit.

One kinda-funny-but-really-not story that has to do with the weather we've had around here this week: for those of you who didn't know, my company makes concrete block. We're building a new plant, and one of our customers -- a large contractor -- is building a wall around it, using our block, of course. Well, they didn't grout the section they'd built (there's mortar between the blocks and rebar in the wall, but they didn't pour grout down the center cells of the block), and in the 90 mph winds, the wall fell down. Three sections of it fell like dominoes.

Great advertisement, huh? Use our block, and your wall, too, can fall down. It's like a caterer's family being hospitalized with food poisoning. maquisleader said we should put a big sign on it that says, "Don't let this happen to you! Call the pros!" so that we can get some good out of it.

They've rebuilt it now, but every time I look at it, I just have to laugh and shake my head. I still don't know why they hadn't grouted it yet, considering that they know the winds we get around here.
