I normally avoid coffee and/or caffeine like the plague, but... As the large amount of caffeinated beverage I recently imbibed started to kick in, I realized something fairly horrible:
It is much easier to engage in repetitive soul crushing IT related tasks like answering phones and helping retarded Americans with their puny insignificant computer problems and presumably writing large amounts of software when one is high on caffeine. Not only am I finding myself more patient with callers, I am much better at troubleshooting their problems, and am far more willing to answer call after call without taking breaks in between. My day is also going by a lot faster, and I'm generally more productive.
This makes me wonder as to whether or not jobs in my industry are designed such that the work is easier to perform on a day to day basis if one imbibes large amounts of stimulants. That or whether we as a species have devolved from self-sufficient individuals who possess critical thinking abilities into automatons best suited for mindless repetitive tasks. Such functions serve little in the way of self improvement and basically cause us to equate well to spinning cogs in giant multinational corporate money making machines.
I now realize just how justified I am in my moral opposition to caffeinated beverages, and hopefully won't continue to drink coffee against my better judgment in order to make my job suck less.
