After poker on Wednesday, Alex came to Scott’s room and we watched Grandma’s Boy. I went back to my room after that. I still didn’t like going to English, though we were released early for once, and I went back to my room and slept for a few hours. I had lunch, and then went to rhythmic aerobics, where we did yoga the whole time, and it was very relaxing and refreshing.
It was Rock Band Thursday, but surprisingly, I didn’t play. I wanted to, but I didn’t. Alex, Scott, and I watched Accepted in Scott’s room and Dan and Alicia joined us. They started The Devil Wears Prada, and I studied a bit of vocabulary for my German test. I left around 2:00 and went to sleep, even though I didn’t want to go.
Friday was great. I had my normal breakfast at Woodworth, and I found out that the nice worker who usually takes my order is in my anthropology class. He asked me what I thought of Super Size Me, which is what we were watching in class, and we talked about it a little bit. Breakfast was good, and then I strolled into geology class - late, as usual.
We had a quiz at the end of class, and it was snowing when I left the art museum. I had tests in my history and German classes, and then I decided to skip anthropology (yes, intentionally, for once) and have lunch with Sarah and a few others. Sarah had to leave as soon as possible because of the snow, and my mom called asking me if I could get a ride from someone who was going to Pendleton so that I wouldn’t be stuck on campus until 7:30 in the evening. I honestly didn’t care when I went back to Pendleton, so I just told her that.
I spent my extra time packing. Kayla left the night before, and I was thankful for that. I just took my time, cleaning up and packing what I needed, as well as dancing to music. I went to the lounge around 3:30 or so and hung out, saying goodbye to my friends as they left for break. Alex and I went up to his room and watched Clue, which I stole from Kayla’s collection (She probably has over a hundred DVDs and was home - I don’t think she’d care.). Then we just talked for a while, and I tickled him. Haha.
We went back downstairs near 7:00, and Julie was at the front desk, Tom was playing the Wii, and Jason was watching. We joined them and waited for my mom, but she didn’t show up until 7:30. She met Alex, and we put all of my belongings in the car. I said goodbye to him, as he wouldn’t be leaving until Saturday because he was driving Hector to the airport.
Mom and I went back to Pendleton, and the roads were icy. A car spun out in front of us and scared us quite a bit. We made it to the house and I had dinner, and then we watched Ella Enchanted. I went to bed at 10:30, and then didn’t wake up until 1:00 in the afternoon. Yeah, that was a lot of sleep. I always tend to sleep more when I’m not at college, and I’m hungrier, too...strange.
I hung about the house mostly, on Saturday. Mom and I went shopping for a little bit, and I got a pair of comfy pajamas at Sears for less than two dollars. Very nice. I went to Jennifer’s house later, and Krista, Nick, Leigh, Brittany, and I hung out for a while, ate pizza, played mental thinking games, talked, and ate girl scout cookies (I swear they put crack in them...). Kristin, Chris, and Kyle showed up later and we hung out some more until I finally went back to my house around 1:30. And then I really didn’t do anything on Sunday. Honestly.
Monday around 11:30, Alex showed up. We placed all of my gear in his car, I gave him a quick tour, and then we were trying to decide whether or not we should just leave, or try and kill a half hour. We flipped a coin and ended up leaving for Seymour. We made it there and had an hour to kill. We ate at Long John Silver’s and then waited for Sarah and Teddy to show up in the McDonald’s parking lot where we were all meeting. They showed up and we went to Wal-Mart for the rest of our food supplies.
Then, we followed Sarah to her grandma’s property and met her grandma. We were camping on her land in her cabin. We loaded up Alex’s car and he backed down the land until it became too muddy, and then we transported our belongings to the cabin by foot. The ground was a mixture of mud and ice, and there was a way to walk over the creek normally, but the water rose so much in a short amount of time. Alex soaked his boots in it. Then, the only option across was this rickety little bridge. It was scary, like a bridge you would find in an Indiana Jones film. Sarah called me “precarious” on the bridge - meaning that each time I crossed it, I was very nervous and yelling out curse words.
Well, again, the bridge was frightening. It had planks hinged together, nailed at the ends, and then had strong, yet rusty wire connecting it and chicken wire at the edges. Thank goodness for the chicken wire, too, because as we kept using the bridge, the slicker it became. Alex fell on it, I think Teddy did, I almost did, and then Sarah fell and had her leg dangling over the side past the chicken wire, we thought we were going to lose her.
Luckily, we all made it safely, and then we settled in and built fires outside and inside the stove. For dinner, we grilled chicken I had marinated at home, and it was pretty good. We cleaned up and then put all our sleeping bags and blankets on the carpet and decided we were going to cuddle and stay warm there. We weren’t going to sleep right away, and Sarah made up this story off the top of her head about Jim the Hobo. She finished the first one (Episode IV: A New Hobo), and then made two more (Episodes V: The Hobo Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of the Hobo), as well as a story about the kids he had with the bag lady Saint Margarita. Yeah, it sounds like we were all on drugs or something, but I think you really had to be there to enjoy the glory of this storytelling. Heck, Mary Shelley did the same thing with Frankenstein, if you think about it...
We started drifting off to sleep, or trying to. There was a crinkling of cellophane, and Teddy attacked whatever it was (a mouse, most likely) that was trying to eat his Thin Mints. Sarah and Teddy serenaded us with “Never Gonna Give You Up,” and we were a little bit crazy, I guess you could say. We cuddled in the cold, cold, night, but we were still really cold. Alex tended to the fire, getting wood from the dark, freezing outside, and he just... well, he’s amazing. We held each other, and he looked out for me, making sure I wouldn’t freeze.
We woke up and ate Golden Grahams and drank coffee, and then we had to get up and leave because it was 1:00 and Sarah had an orthodontist appointment at 2:30 or so. She took us to her dad’s house, where she showered, left, and we showered. Yeah, it wasn’t exactly ‘roughing it,’ but hey, it worked. I did dishes, too, and then we went back to the cabin when Sarah returned. We went on a nice hike through the woods, the weather was beautiful out.
When we returned, we built an outside fire and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows and made s’mores. They were quite tasty, though Teddy and I preferred our marshmallows golden, rather than charred beyond belief like Alex and Sarah enjoyed theirs. To each his own, though, right?
We were tired, so we got ready for bed. Sarah finished the saga of Jim the Hobo, his time with three Indiana Jones-styled segments and an additional story about Jim the Hobo battling the Space Jews. Then we tried to go to sleep, but we had some visitors. There was one mouse that was rather quiet, though he ran above our heads at times. I couldn’t hear him, but Sarah named him Señor. Then, we had one mouse that was very noisy and rustling around in the garbage bag when we were trying to sleep. Sarah named him Periwinkle.
We received more sleep the second night than the first, although it was still cold, and I was feeling sick. I think I’m on the verge of a sinus infection right now, and I really wish I wasn’t. It makes it hard to breathe. I hope I get better soon.
We woke up and munched on trail mix and turkey sandwiches, and then decided to pack up and go. Sarah went to her mom’s, and Teddy, Alex, and I went to Seymour, though Teddy stopped at Steak ‘n’ Shake while Alex and I got gas and took the car through a car wash. We went through Cumberland, where Alex is from, and I got to see the outside of his house. Alex and I got to my house, I took my stuff out of his car, and said goodbye. That was around 4:00. I took my shower and bummed around the house the rest of the day.
In fact, that’s what I’ve been doing today as well. Although I’ve been trying to set up something fun for Alex and I to do tomorrow. It’s hard to find something cheap and fun to do in Indianapolis. I mean, we’ve both been to the IMA so many times, and just nothing is appealing to us right away. We’re mostly going to play this by ear, so we’ll see how things go.
