This is my letter for the shipswap exchange! Signups are still open if you want to join in.
First of all, thankyouthankyou mystery author! I'm super excited to see what you're going to do and I know I'll love it. Due to the nature and breadth of the fest, I've given each request it's own little blarb and as you can expect, its kinda long. I'm pretty easy going when it comes to fic, I've listed my likes and squicks below but there really isn't too much I wont read.
General Stuff
I love pretty much everything; I love gen, het, femmeslash, slash, multi, etc. Whatever floats your boat. And any rating is good (PG to the pornyist of porn) I love AU/AR stories, canon-gap fillers, actionadventure, comedy, etc . I love love character study pieces - it doesn't have to have plot, just subtle ruminations of characters. I love female characters socializing together, enjoying their off hours together, having fun. I like when people enjoy their work. I like female characters with power and ones who quest for power. Badass ladies who kick ass and take names. I'm not a huge fan of straight-up fluff, I find it not realistic and a tad boring - but I love a happy ending. I love romantic relationships based on friendship and equality, people actually enjoying each other's company and getting to know each other.
Squicks + Stuff
Non con is an absolute no-no for me. I don't mind if the women in the story are discussing sexual assaults that happened in their past or their fears/feelings about it. Its a part of women's daily lives, so its realistic to see it explored through the fictional ladies we love (this is especially true for female character who have a canonical experience with assault). Just don't graphically depict it for me and don't put it in a ship scenario. Other squicks include mpreg, babyfic, bodily fluids not normally associated with sex used in sex, anal in het pairings, incest, character basing, ship basing, breathplay.
Kinks
Oh gosh, I'm pretty diverse here too - whatever floats your boat that isn't a squick of mine I'm sure to love. I love women being dominant/confident and I love men being dominant/confident (but all in a mutually respective way of course), knotkink, roughplay, tenderness,
Crossovers
Buffy Summers/Thor : what I like about this pairing is the possibility for 'goodness'. Buffy tends to prefer men who have quite a bit of darkness in them (much like herself), but Thor is very 'good', even when he was a spoiled prince, so I think that dynamic would play out in an interesting way. Plus I love the idea of Buffy being stronger than Thor; he's this big ol' powerful god and here's this sassy woman thats stronger than him. I think they'd spar really well, physically and verbally. You could take her to Aasgard or have Thor come across her on a mission for SHIELD and then bring her into the Avengers (bonus points if you get Buffy and Natasha to bond and be awesome together).
Buffy Summers/Ronon Dex : I like these two because they are both very broken, but are also incredible warriors. Both of them would describe themselves as soldiers first before anything else. The idea of duty, reluctance, loss, etc. I think they'd be able to find kinship in their similarities. They'd be mutually supportive of each other in a way that I don't think either of them has ever had. They'd understand that things need to be done for the greater good even if it means sacrificing themselves/their relationship and sometimes there isn't time for emotions or selfishness. Plus they'd be freakin awesome in battle together; and they each have a great sense of humour, so some lightness amongst the darkness. I'm currently working on two bigbangs for this pairing so I'm pretty invested in them. lol. I'm up for pretty much anything of these two, want to AU it where they are cops, I'm down with that; you can set it in either show universe if you'd like, they both transition really well. Buffy could be a Runner and her and Ronon meet up, or Ronon is a Rogue Demon Hunter (:P). Or a werewolf AU (I love knotkink! lol).
Buffy Summers/Derek Reese : I'd honestly never thought about this pairing until I saw it come up in the tags....but now I'm TOTALLY for it. I think something set in the Terminator verse would be best (kinda like the Wishverse of Buffy) two freedom fighters meeting up in this awful future; conflicts over chains of command and battle tactics.
Leonard McCoy/Toshiko Sato : I honestly have no idea about this ship, I just ship it hahaha. I think I love their passion for science and their bravery, but how its tempered by their almost denial about the world around them. They both are kind of crumugery. You can set it on the Enterprise if you want, or in Starfleet or in London, or whatever setting makes the most sense to you. I'm also not specific on which version of Leonard McCoy you use; I love DeForest Kelly's original (so so much), but Karl Urban's interpretation was literally my favourite thing about the remake, so I'm good with either.
Kathryn Janeway/Helen Magnus : to be honest, I think I genship these two more than femmeslash them. They are two of my absolute favourite female characters of all time so I love the idea of them hanging out, taking over the world. They could just be having tea or drinks or anything. Magnus can live to the future or you could involve River Song if you want and have a time travel thing going. Also, if its your cup of tea I'd be totally down with some Janeway/Magnus/Jack Harkness sexytimes. oooo now I want that. If you want to put the two together in a shippy romance way (without Jack lol) than go right ahead, I love these two. I love how they both deal with power, that they have so much, the idea of command and control and being intergalactic badasses.
The West Wing
CJ Cregg/Simon Donovan : I fell in love with this pairing when it first aired and I've never gotten over it. Ever. OTP it to this day. So....ideally, Simon would live lol. I'd like it to stay in this universe (so no vampires or anything lol). I like the idea of little glimpses into their lives together, vignettes of different moments both big and small; sharing breakfast or CJ telling Simon she's the new Chief of Staff. The conflicts that might arise from her position and his job as Secret Service (like what duties he's assigned, conflicts of interest, or benefits of being on the Pres's detail when your wife is also travelling with him, etc) You can set it during the Bartlett administration or after it, I'm not picky. Bonus points if you throw in any of the other women on this show, Abby, Donna, Kate, Amy, etc - I love the idea of CJ having galpals around her.
Stargate SG1
Cameron Mitchell/Elizabeth Weir : as odd as it sounds, this is my OTP for the Stargate universe (though I'm also a Sparky at heart lol). I just think they'd be absolutely fantastic together. They are both in the program, separated by galaxies, so how that would play on their relationship. They both have a strong sense of duty, but also of mirth and rebellion. I love how they would have to treasure the small moments, the odd times she's on Earth or he's on Atlantis - the lack of privacy during "phone calls". I'd love a falling-in-love piece; one of my favourite tropes for these two is them coming back to Atlantis on the Prometheus and them getting to know each other/having sexytimes during the journey.
Sam Carter/Paul Davis : I really think Sam and Paul would have made a great pair, for similar reasons that Cam and Weir do. They're both in the program and they are both very very born-and-bred military, so their sense of duty and honour would be compatible. I like that she's the brain/brawn and he's such a wonderful negotiator and bureaucrat (in the nice way), how hard he works to keep her program running. I think they could have a 'normal' life in many ways and they'd be happy together. Feel free to do anything with them, Sam taking him through the gate to her favourite planet, or them dealing with asshat politicians, or saving the universe. And I never do babyfic, but I'd be open to a pregnancy story for these two, dealing with her being pregnant and going on missions, birth on another planet (and the legal consequences of that lol), and Paul deciding to be a stay-at-home parent (cause he's totally awesome like that). Or set it in the SGA season, Paul comes with her. Feel free to use any other characters from the Gateverse but please no Sam/Jack.
Ba'al/Ba'al : Honestly, go as absolutely crazy with this as you want. No restrictions (except the squiks obv). If you want to throw Sam in there for some dirtydirty stuff, go right ahead. hahaha. And you can use more than two Ba'al's if you want - he did replicate himself a lot.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Buffy Summers/Charles Gunn : I almost OTP this, its definitely in my top5 Buffyverse ships. They'd just get each other; despite the fact that she's a middle class white gal and he's a black man who grew up in the bad part of town, they are very similar people. They know about sacrifice and greyzones, and doing things because they need to be done. They are both very street smart and provocative (not in the sexual way). I'd love something where they meet up accidentally in LA, fight some demons and then have a one night stand and then they learn/have to deal with finding out about Angel...like Buffy comes into the office or something. Angst is good, its Buffy after all. Jealous Angel is good, but so is commanding Buffy telling him not to get up in her business. I'd love it if they made it work, Buffy and Gunn, like they actually made a go of it; the drama that would result - for Gunn at the office, etc. Or Buffy could bring Gunn home with her to Sunnydale. And if you want to get kinda kinky, I'd be down for some Buffy/Gunn/Angel too, obviously there's a curse thing, so maybe he gets to watch or just be with Gunn. lol. Bonus points if Lorne pops up in the story somewhere.
Faith Lehane/Tara Maclay : I dont know what it is with these two, but I dig it. I ship Faith and Tara with a bunch of different people so why not together eh. I think I'd love something set in an AU, kind of medieval maybe where Faith is still a Slayer and Tara is a witch, but a powerful one who has cast off magic for some reason. Or set it in canon if you'd like, whenever you'd like. I'd prefer if there was no infidelity though (thats just not Tara). If you want to throw Willow in there with them, thats good for me. Or Spike - some weird AU or not.
Faith Lehane/Spike : I love how much trouble they'd be together. Buffy made Spike be a better man, but Faith loves the crazy, she's a shit disturber. I think they'd only work in a vampire AU, where she gets turned (maybe set in a different era too); think of the chaos there would be. I don't OTP these two, so feel free to not have it ending with them together. I'm also totally open to a Faith/Spike/Buffy/Angel type thing (that OT4 is really the only shippy answer to this show amiright); especially if its set back in the day with a turnedSlayer and then Spike + Angel without their souls coming across badass Buffy. Awesome sauce. Or have it set in canon if you'd like, but no infidelity.
Star Trek Voyager
Kes/Seven of Nine : I OTP these two so bad....and I like to pretend Kes never left the ship. I ship Kes/Seven pretty damn hard....and its a lonely place to be because its such a teeny ship. So ANYTHING about them would be amazeballs. What I like about them as a pairing is how complimentary they would be for each other. Seven is an abuse survivor, the traumatic event of watching her parents be assimilated and then going through it herself, coming out of that imprisonment decades later and adjusting to human existence. Kes has a wonderful capacity for empathy and she's so patient and caring - those are qualities I see Seven wanting/needing in a partner. And Seven is incredibly confident and empowering and she would help enable Kes to achieve her dreams and push herself further. They'd be just great together. So anything about them would be LOVE. And you can add Janeway in here too (in a gen way) cause she's awesome and loves both these women like sisters.
Seven of Nine/Jadzia Dax : both of these characters are Queer characters, despite TBTB not even being aware of it. Read the thing above for my perspective on Seven and as for Dax, she's such a confident and relaxed woman - she's lived so many lives, I think she'd help open Seven up socially because she's so relaxed. But she's also really restrained and reflective and private which would go really well with Seven's personality. On her side, Seven is incredibly driven and I think she'd push Jadzia to be more creative with her own work, explore more possibilities. I'm pretty open to anything, maybe have Seven stationed there after Voyager gets home, or have them deal with her becoming Ezri (and the complications of that - maybe it really wouldn't phase Seven, she's really flexible with concepts of identity and the body, so how she's the only one it doesn't bother but the personal in betweens of getting to know a new version of someone, of learning how to re-love them). You can add in Worf if you want, I'm down for a Seven/Dax/Worf thing; there's a violence and aggression to all of them that I just LOVE (and Worf is one of my favourite Trek characters ever). But no infidelity.
Belanna Torres/Seven of Nine : as much as I ADORE Tom/Belanna, there's subtext between these two. They fight all the time and they are both SO smart and so controlling, I'd love to see that explored in a more intimate way between them. They both struggle with identity issues and acceptance, and they both have such an intimate knowledge of violence (both done against them and their own urges) that that would be neat to explore as well, though I dont want any domestic abuse type stuff; consensual rough play/sparring is fine. And they both have huge smart brains....so they save the ship a lot. And you can add Janeway in here too (in a gen way) cause she's awesome and loves both these women like sisters (my headcanon has Janeway and Belanna being total bestfriends).
Torchwood
Jack Harkness/River Song : my goodness, the trouble these two could cause! Sexy trouble! I honestly don't care what you do with these two - an action adventure romp or straight up porn, just keep them in character. I love bold sassy River who is kinda sneaky but always in control with a trick up her sleeve and I love bold Jack with his wit and cockiness. They'd tear the universe up with their antics. You can go angsty too if you like, angst is good. But so is fun and these two would have fun. You can add in any other characters from the Torchwood/Who-verse if you'd like (in a gen way). 11 and 9 are my favourite Doctors, but you can use whichever version you'd like. And if you're up for it a Jack/River/Helen Magnus threesome would be the best thing on the planet. If you give me that I'll love you forever.
Martha Jones/Toshiko Sato : I'm glad to see that there are other people who ship this; all it took was one scene and BAM! Ship!. I'm not super sure what I want for these two, but I'd love anything. I like how they meet when Martha has spent a few years with the Doctor so she's incredibly confident and worldsavvy. If you want to set the story around these two being sneaky to get Jack + Ianto to do something (like wear that little outfit Martha jokes about) than please go ahead (I OTP Jack/Ianto pretty hard) and then these two fall for each other in the process....or the aliens-made-them-do-it trope is awesome too (like maybe they bring back some alien device that makes them all randy in the Torchwood office).
.... and after reading through all of this, I'm apparently wayyyy more into OT3s than I thought I was hahahaha.

You can add in any other characters from the Torchwood/Who-verse if you'd like (in a gen way). 11 and 9 are my favourite Doctors, but you can use whichever version you'd like. And if you're up for it a Jack/River/Helen Magnus threesome would be the best thing on the planet. If you give me that I'll love you forever.
Martha Jones/Toshiko Sato : I'm glad to see that there are other people who ship this; all it took was one scene and BAM! Ship!. I'm not super sure what I want for these two, but I'd love anything. I like how they meet when Martha has spent a few years with the Doctor so she's incredibly confident and worldsavvy. If you want to set the story around these two being sneaky to get Jack + Ianto to do something (like wear that little outfit Martha jokes about) than please go ahead (I OTP Jack/Ianto pretty hard) and then these two fall for each other in the process....or the aliens-made-them-do-it trope is awesome too (like maybe they bring back some alien device that makes them all randy in the Torchwood office).
.... and after reading through all of this, I'm apparently wayyyy more into OT3s than I thought I was hahahaha.
