I had a meeting yesterday. In attendance were representatives from other campuses who have the same position I do. It was kind of neat putting faces to voices that I hear on our weekly conference calls. There is one woman in particular whom I was interested in meeting. She's new at her position and often calls me for help, advice, etc. (if I may brag a little, my campus is always leading the university in numbers that relate to my department).

I was taken aback when introduced for she was wearing *gasp* a Christmas sweater!

I'm not very good at guessing people's ages (or weights - my carnival talents lie elsewhere), but I was guessing that she is either close to my age or perhaps a few years younger.

I wish I could explain why I have this thing against Christmas sweaters (besides the fact that they're just plain unattractive). They just doesn't seem age-appropriate for someone in their 30s. Or maybe it's just a hang-up of mine, I dunno.

With that in mind, I propose that legislation be passed outlawing Christmas sweaters for folks who are:

a)under the age of 60
b)not a grandparent
c)not a teacher

I'm willing to be flexible on some of these parameters, but it's a good starting point. For the age condition, I suggest that merchants demand to see a driver's license of the purchaser. They do it for alcohol and cigarettes. Stores could also have signs in place saying that it's unlawful to purchase a Christmas sweater for someone who doesn't qualify.
