Oh the things that have happened. I have a translation contract (my very first!) and I get to be a lecturer for the summer before I go back to TA-ing (Master's Degrees ARE good for something!)and, even though this should not be the most exciting thing right now, it is: 47 days until moving day.
Our new place is the cutest place ever, in our heads. It is filled with bookshelves and gumdrop cushions with crazy fabric and a happy, flopping kitten on a brand new rug. Colorful curtains frame the windows. There are good smells from things like jambalaya and Duco bread and Rachel pasta and courtbuillion and Trader Joe's Indian packets emanating from the kitchen. There is actual, decent furniture and a fantastic collection of mismatched tableware accrued over time at IKEA and Savers and St. Vinnie's. There is always wine. And sometimes beer. It even fits in the fridge. Our favorite paintings and collections of words decorate the walls. Music from ABBA, The Ark, The Killers, Mika, my violin, and our keyboard is heard throughout. The backyard is a jumble of flowers and rhubarb and vegetables. The sad lack of closets or a porch or a full-sized oven are barely an issue, because we're about to perish from the overall loveliness factor.
Sigh.
