The subject of this post is to be read the second way I assume people will read it. Not the first way. Let me give some context:
Since it is Easter, I made hot cross buns today. I have my great-grandma's recipe, and today was the second time I made them. Last year they turned out all funny, mostly because the cross icing (yes, this I consider icing, crazy roommates!) was too thin. This year they're better, because the icing is of a properly thick consistency. I still had trouble cutting the crosses deep enough, though. Also, you'd think someone who is as into cake decorating as I am would be able to make decent-looking crosses out of icing. This is not the case, leading me to believe that heathens like me are not meant to ice buns with crosses. My mom makes very nice crosses, though, which is odd if my theory is correct, but maybe this can be attributed to being raised in a Christian household.
I made more heathen buns today, too: semlor, which are a semi-sweet bun that Swedes eat for mardi gras. I was busy for mardi gras, no time for baking, so Easter will just have to cut it. You chop the top off the bun, scrape out the insides, mix them with milk and almond paste, and put it back in. Then you pipe whipped cream on top of that and put the top back on like a little lid. I haven't actually done that second bit yet, so hopefully it goes well.
